Anyone ever register a salvaged bike in MA?

Trying to register a bike that I just got and on the mass RMV site it says that I need to bring the following...

1 An appraisal report from the insurance company.
2 Receipts evidencing acquisition of all major component parts used to restore the vehicle. In case of used parts, include the vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle from which the parts were taken. A list of major component parts are listed on the Application for Inspection of a Salvage Vehicle.

errrr I dont have either one. what should I do?

You need to have both and get a state cop to inspect the vehicle and your paperwork.
Mass. is one of the hardest states to do this in. You should do it in NH, then transfer the new title to MA.

Re: Anyone ever register a salvaged bike in MA?

    I've done it
you need to have receipts for all the parts that need to be replaced on the insurance paperwork. parts bought on ebay will not be accepted unless they come from a registered business with receipts , 2nd hard parts are not accepted unless you have the history of the bike they came from and even then can be rejected
It's all about having good paperwork when you go for the inspection , the state troopers that inspect vehicles are okay as long as your paperwork is in order but they have seen every scam you can think of go thru and don't tolerate bullshit.
I've done it once but wouldn't bother again unless the bike is a total screaming deal because by the time your done you could have bought a similar clean used bike for around the same money and no hassle.

how hard is it to do in NH?

it looks like they ask for the same things as mass.

Going to try to make some headway today. I have the name/number of the insurance company that originally salvaged the bike. Hopefully I can get the appraisal report from them.

Re: Anyone ever register a salvaged bike in MA?

thats the thing, the bike runs/rides fine. it has 5k miles. it has a salvage title b/c it was laid down on the side, and the swingarm sliders snapped off and put a hole in the swingarm.

everything was repaired except for the swingarm. (it has a small hole where the slider was torn out)

you should be able to write on a piece of paper "whoever totalled this bike is a crack smoker/habitual line stepper" and get the ok. Good luck man, that is messed up you have to go through this for that bikes condition.

Re: Anyone ever register a salvaged bike in MA?

Its not that hard..I got my last 2 bikes inspected in Bridgewater,Ma.--one of the troopers was a total douche, but thats because I had no idea what they wanted for paperwork. As long as you have reciepts and the copy of the insurance claim..its just paperwork B.S.-I did buy parts off ebay but I kept the reciepts from pay pal...they never gave me a problem. You do however need to start the bike and drive it into the inspection area where they will check the V.I.N. and look over the bike. Most of the repairs like to my swingarm..which they totalled due to scratchs??? -I just put repaired by owner...You don't have to make the bike perfect just roadworthy.I also had to weld up a broken frame slider tab...no big deal.Your bike is mint compared to most bikes they see...inspection was about 30 minutes tops, I was riding it after a 2 hr. wait at the freakin DMV....good luck

Re: Anyone ever register a salvaged bike in MA?

i did mine in CT. I had a appraisal and the receipt for the turn signals. all the bodywork that was damaged, i removed. when she asked about the receipt for the front wheel i told her i bought it off someone on a website and they didnt give me a receipt. she said ok here you go.

now VT is very easy to go register in. Bring the title and bill of sale. get the title mailed to your house and then reregister in mass when your plates expire

Re: Anyone ever register a salvaged bike in MA?

    thanks for the advice guys.

i think the hardest part now is going to be getting the insurance claim. I spoke to a nice lady that had the info but she had to ask her supervisor if it was ok to send it over to me.

    i'll keep you guys posted

You're also going to need the stock exhaust and the stock plate mount hardware. I'm pretty sure the bike needs to be put back in factory condition.

EDIT: Although I could be wrong, never did it before, was going to with my 04RR I crashed but I just sold it because I heard it was a pain in the ass.
