    Best way to ship wheels?

Anyone shipped a set of wheels before? If so best/cheapest way to do it? I'm guessing UPS Ground is probably going to be the best option, but I haven't done this before...

I've used UPS ground in the past, and if I remember correctly they sell a box that works perfectly.

I ship wheels all the time at work. UPS ground will be the cheapest, just pack them really well because UPS will do their best to try to damage them.

    I sent a 2.5L subaru shortblock once!

Packed it really well, brought it to usp, and shipped it for like $120

    it went better than expected.

Don't be like the kid that sold me my sumo wheels and try to pack both wheels (with tires, rotors, and sprocket mounted) in a single box.
At least he used bubble wrap. (A fookin' warehouse full of it!)

Re: Best way to ship wheels?

If I'm not mistaken, UPS recently started using the size of the boxes along with weights to determine cost and prices have risen dramatically for bigger things. USPS probably the best way now.

i've shipped 3 sets of wheels to Will's Rim Repair. I used my own boxes (computer desktop box) to fit both wheels in there. It's been $35 for each set. I was shipping to South Carolina, so maybe the rate was different.

I always shopped around...find your box first, pack iy well, make sure the box is strong enough to withstand being tossed around, then when you go to the big chains (like fedex), setup a shipping account...this saved me like $25 to ship a bicycle across country

Re: Best way to ship wheels?

I shipped my vmax rims across country for under $75 (with tires) with UPS ground.

USPS was a bit higher. It seems to me once you get over one wheel sized boxes UPS gets cheaper.

Re: Best way to ship wheels?

Thanks again everyone. I fit both wheels into an 18"x18"x16" box from Home Depot, which was about a buck. The same box from the local USPS store was $11.95

USPS Parcel Post was about $35 according to the calculator. FedEx Ground is about $20. This is going from here to Texarkana, TX.

I found a can of Coors, an ignition lead and an old socket stuck inside the firewall of my El Camino. I have a photo somewhere...
