Peg feelers - take 'em off or what?

When I was at the Gap last week, several people told me to remove my peg
    feelers on my SV.

What is the general consensus here?

    Remove them totally?

Replace them with short bolts to provide some wear resistance to the peg?

Take them off completely and never look back.

I did grind them quite a bit over there even though I was hanging off
especially in the decreasing radius curves.

And by the way ... who is the effing asshole that straightened all those local curves around here when I was gone!

    it was the fuckin cops.

i suppose you should remove them if you keep dragging it because then you can drag the plastics next.

Do your rearsets fold up? If they do, I might leave em on...they provide feedback without introducing any risk. If they don't I'd take em off
... if you keep dragging it because then you can drag the plastics next.

Install those spring-loaded curb feelers like the old-schoolers had on their boat-sized Caddys.

They are the stock ones that fold up ... that was the point I was trying to make.

They told me if I hit a groove in the pavement dragging those feelers, it would upset the chassis and suspension enough to lowside the bike.

As for sparky feelers .. they already make lots of sparks when they touch .. my right one is almost 3/4 ground off while the left one is about
    a third ground off.

they serve no purpose at all...other than to irritate you
    as you touch.

    I find with them off
its a little less jarring to drag the folding peg itself...

best would be to get higher after market ones
    that dont drag at all

I'd rather drag a little feeler than a big peg.

Unless they're 1-2 inches long I'd leave em on.

My theory is, if you're dragging pegs & you aren't dragging a knee, your form & technique has room for improvment. I used to drag em on my ZX... then I started learning how I could improve my technique & form.... I worked on it at the track & now I'm going much faster than before, leaning MORE than before and am no longer dragging my pegs.

Take em off now & you'll only be temporarily hiding the signs that you need to make adjustments to your technique.

i agree, but i'd rather have nothing there to drag on the ground.

then when you run into that corner that tightens up a little more than you expected or have to tighten your line to go around a rock theres nothing there to touch the ground and fuck you up.

You're absolutely right, I'd rather have nothing drag either..... but take the feelers off & you'll start leaning further & further until now you're dragging peg.... you're also going faster than you were before on the same roads, you're closer to the limits of the tire & you're closer to experiencing an "unscheduled dismount".

By taking the feelers off, the only thing you're doing is removing a warning sign that you need to change something about your technique. The proper fix for this is learning how to ride better. I suppose the BEST solution is to do BOTH.

Like Peter Kates says... "If you can't afford to do it right, how can you afford to do it over?"

This follows the same principle... if you can't afford to learn the proper technique, how can you afford to fix your bike & your body?

Peg feelers - take 'em off or what?

SV's have the stock curb feelers extremely low IMO. Even with my monkey ass hanging off the pegs (not feelers) scraped. Only time i scraped the feelers on the street was on Kurts "Goat Trail" (i think thats what its called).

First and only time i scraped the feelers was coming out of 12, and since it seems like plenty of people drag hard parts coming on to the straight they left alot of nice little grooves in the pavement (or it could just be my imagination), when i scraped there i had to pit next lap and check my pants because it gave me a nice little wiggle coming on the straight.
