Best roads in Washington and Rensselaer counties New York? Help!

    Hi,

I am putting together a couple of rides for friends coming from out of the area next year and want to explore the region between the Hudson and the MA/VT border.

I've wandered out there a few times to mixed results. If anyone can name some prime route in here that's a huge help.

I am really looking for roads that can be fun at moderate speeds, basically, the tighter the better. True of so many things.

    Thanks

    Adam

Taconic Parkway is pretty good for getting N & S quickly without getting on an interstate (read: no semis) . Runs from I-90 all the way down to NYC.

I'm looking for fun roads to ride on, not to get anyplace quickly.

Everything between Rt 40 and Rt 22 from just south of Argyle to the end of Rt40.

Really zigzaging your way north just staying between 22 and 40 from Troy north can be lot's of fun.

I live in Hartford and these are my roads. So toot when you go by.

Specific roads would be County Rt. 45 in north argyle

    Mcheachron hill road

    Summit lake road

    There are others...

When I've wandered over there, I have found some great roads. The problem is I get over so seldom, as it's a couple hours ride to the area, that I forget their names and locations. It's an interesting area to me, it seems less exploited than Vermont and the Berkshires but with very nice roads in good condition.

I appreciate the help. If anyone else wants to chime in I am all ears.

    Thanks

On your way up you can make your way from Lee MA up toward Rt2 and take that over to Stephentown NY. That is a nice rip.

Here in Hartford, County rt 17 is decent too. Actually i ride it pretty often.

    Slyboro road is fun too.

In Vermont there is RT 140, Rt153 Rt30 and what we call the river road which is from Danby 4 corners to Danby village.

When I get a chance I will put together a list of route numbers that make sense. Half the time I don't even know the road name. I just ride them.

    Keep it in your sneaker
