    How to remove mirrors

I don't know if I'm having a total brain fart, but I cannot get these mirrors off my 2010 kawasaki z1000. They have two nuts (top one has a flange). I've tried loosening them one at a time, against each other, even tried to see if they were reversed threaded. How do I get these friggin things off!?!?!?

    Re: How to remove mirrors

Usually the bottom unscrews from the handlebar mount and the top one holds the mirror from spinning.

What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.

Loosen the nut, then unscrew the mirror bar (twirl the mirror off)

Yep, unscrew the tapered collar-type nut and then spin off the mirror

So, just unscrew the top collared nut (lefty-loosy) and that's it?! I've been doing that, there's no way that's all you have to do because I've been trying to He-Man those off for days now.

    Re: How to remove mirrors

On my 08 Z1000, you had to have a wrench on both. You needed to loosen the bottom one while holding the top one from spinning. If I recall correctly they also had blue loctite on the mirror stud, so it took a bit of muscle.

    Re: How to remove mirrors

Are you trying to just completely remove them to install something different? If that's the case, put a wrench on the bottom "nut" and remove. They in theory should both be regular thread, meaning turn left, and will have Loctite on them, so will require some muscle, heat, or both.

The whole assembly (both nuts) should be a compression fitting. The bottom has 3 or 4 fingers on it sticking up that hold the mirror shaft, and the top nut tightens and clamps down those fingers to hold it all together. At least that's how my Tuono mirrors were set up, and this looks like the same setup. The 2 halves may have seized over time and may be quite hard to loosen.
