    Remove Tank

How do I go about removing my tank off of my k7 GSX-R 750. I just got my LED lights in and it says its recommended that I remove the tank. I don't want to pay the money to have them installed if I don't have to. Thanks for any feedback.

    Re: Remove Tank

I can't believe I'm about to help you install LED's on a perfectly good bike...

Remove the seat. (two small allen bolts, 4mm, on either side of the seat)
Remove the big allen (6mm) bolt at the front of the tank.
Retrieve the tank prop rod from under the rear seat.
Prop up the tank using the rod and disconnect all the stuff from the tank (two vent hoses, they slide off. The fuel line from the bottom of the pump. Pinch the gray tabs and the coupler will slide off. Unplug the power for the fuel pump.)
Remove the bolt holding (and now acting like a hinge) from the rear of the tank. It's one 5mm allen that goes all the way through the tank hinge and into the other side of the frame.
Carefully lift the tank off of the bike.

Now that I've told you. I must warn you. Removing a gas tank from a sportbike is pretty basic stuff. If you're not confident at that... You probably shouldn't be handling the install of electrical components...

Go pay someone. Or call Jim....

did you forget to empty the tank first or get ready for gas spill and warning to smoke while doing it?

    Nope, didn't forget a thing...

Not a drop will be spilled after the quick disconnect is removed. I had my tank off yesterday, it was half full, no problem.

Throw a stick of dynamite at it.

In all seriousness, based on your question, don't attempt this install. Bring your LED's up to NH this weekend and I'll do the install slicker-n-baby shit.

This is a manual for a K6 but the steps are basically the same.

i can help you. but only because you have a gixxer & are installing LED's. you probably dont have to remove the tank, just prop it up. i dont have a prop up tool, so i just use a hammer on the air box to hold the tank up.

fair warning: you may end up asking to delete this thread when you turn into a pinanta for asking a gixxer, LED and simple question.

    Re: Remove Tank

Im not trying to flame, but if you cant get the tank off, which is probably the easiest step of installing LEDs (trust me, I've done them) you're probably going to want to have someone do them, or at least help you.

Def dont try this on your own. Not trying to flame, but if you can't look around and find the bolts to get a tank off you dont want to be splicing into you electrical system. you have an offer...its worth the drive, bergs knows what he's doing. Any shop worth going to will charge you a good amount...and as PK says, if you can't afford to do it right how are you going to afford to do it over. Words of wisdom.

Now go find that blender :
