Renting a Hardley in San Diego

I'm off to San Diego for the week. I'm going to rent a full dress road king while I'm out there for 24 hours and tool around with the girl on the back.

They have insurance, not that I plan on using but it's 24 bucks and if I total it I still owe $1000 bucks.

Either way it shoudl be fun to tool around Cali. I have never been. Anyone have any suggerstions for a San Diego area trip. Were probably going to take the Pacific Coast Highway up to LA and then just head east from there.

I'm gonna bring that bike back sans pipes and floorboards.....hee hee hee. I was thinking I would bring my full race setup and show up to rent one. Whadya think?

Re: Renting a Hardley in San Diego

We rented a Hardly for a day when we were in Laguna Beach. Our intent was to ride up & down the Pacific Coast Highway and make a day of it. We had a brand new Fatboy with less than 2000 miles on it. I would've rather have been in a fuckin' bus. I had the thing back in less than 2 hours and that time also included some photo opp's & a lunch stop. Riding that thing was a total let down. I was actually looking forward to riding a brandy new one too, seeing as they've all been saying how much they've improved 'em. Within a coupla stoplights I was already telling Big Shirl we made a mistake. It was cool riding in teeshirts & jeans in the middle of November, especially the PCH. But what total pieces of shit those things are. There's not one quality part that goes into those heaps...

Be wary of those scumbag rental places too. When we showed up to pick ours up, first thing the dude told us was he didn't have time to put gas in it. So *WE* stop right away and toss a few bucks in it. He seemed like a lowlife fuckstick, so before we dropped it off I topped it off. Sure enough, without even going over to the bike, the dipshit tells me I brought it back empty. I just fuckin' laughed at him and told him I'd cancel payment if he wanted to fuck around...

Just curious.......... Can you rent other bikes or are harleys the only ones available for rent?

I am planning a trip out to riverside county sometime this summer and was wondering if renting a sport bike would be an option.

I'm sure you can. Unbeknownst to me, corporate rented it for me. I didn't go out & look around, I was just psyched to have a bike to ride for a day. I was incredibly disappointed by the Hardly. I didn't expect sprotbike-type characteristics in the least. But I thought there must be SOMETHING to those things. Nope, wrong...

Re: Renting a Hardley in San Diego

Thanks for the tips folks. I'll post some pics and let you know how I made out. We got here on Friday and it has not stopped raining since. Hung out and did the grocery thing and a nap and then found the local watering hole on saturday. We have a sweet house with a pool and hot tub and a seperate pool cabana with a king bed in it. That's where Jen and I sleeping. It's nice cuz my sister has 2 kids a 2 and 5 year old and they have been up at 5am because they have not adjusted to the time change. Thank god for the pool house. Up at 5am on vacation is not my idea of a vacation.

    Peace out

Re: Renting a Hardley in San Diego

Eagle Rider is great. I have rented Electra Glide Ultras from them twice in Vegas. Once I rode to the Grand Canyon and the second time I rode up the Extraterrestrial Highway, alone, at midnight, to Tonepah. Then on to Reno for a couple days. Then back to Vegas where I met up with a bunch of guys. We rode through Death Valley to Lone Pine Cal.

It was cold both trips so I wore my heated Gerbing gear using an adapton from VenWings.

The Harley wasn't my cup o' tea but it was a motorcycle and we had a blast!

I would use Vinnies R1 or HD if the OL was there. Fuck the traffic on the left. They will run you over.

Re: Renting a Hardley in San Diego

I would go with Eagle Rider, they are a vy. professional outfit. I rented a GL1800 earlier this year from them in LA, super nice bike. I can not think of a better bike to tour on. Price was decent, and the people nice. Beware not all Eagle Riders carry them. Call your location directly.

Also there is a BMW shop affiliated with Eagle Rider, however I am not sure if they are in your area. Good luck!

Ahhh...Eagle Rider. Corporate just kinda called around and found some Guido rental place for us (offense intended). I didn't have a say in any of it, they just kinda did it for us and sprung it on us the night before...

If nothing else KB, the scenery was astounding...

Re: Renting a Hardley in San Diego

We rented an Electra Glide. We went up from Encinitas the 5 north to 78 West to 79 north to the s6 southback into Encinitas. Saw lot's of the wildfire damage. Pretty creepy riding through the hills and valleys and nothing alive. It looked like some sort of nuclear war type shit. Awesome awesome awesome roads. Some nice fast engineered roads, some nice twisties up in the mountians. Orange and grape orchards everywhere. It was in the upper 40's up in the mountains, cold as shit.

I think I need to move out here. Sweet roads you can ride year round.

Oh yeah forgot to mention that the Electra Glide was a great comfy highway machine. Keep 100 was work for it. I brought it back with the engine light on and it smelling like oil. I put it through it's paces up in the mountains dragging all kinds of shit. Pretty much a 20 thousand dollar toilet.

Rental with insurance was 154 all said and done. Plus another 35 for gas. We did about 300 miles. It was a real comfortable ride. I think I need a goldwing STAT!!!!
