What do you take with you when you ride?

I assume this changes depending on the length and purpose of the ride, how far from civilization you're going, etc… but just in general… What do you store on your bike? What do you bring on every ride vs. on longer trips? Rain gear, first aid, tire pressure gauge, tools, zip ties, duct tape, spare glasses, maps, water balloons, rocket launchers...?

For the regular daily riding, I carry a multi-tool and a pocketknife (whether I'm on the bike or not, for that matter). Cellphone and AAA card.

My bike jacket pocket always has some earplugs, small zipties, a bandanna, and a rag.

If I'm taking a multi-day trip, I'll add some tools (set of allen wrenches, a few metric wrenches, and an adjustable wrench), along with a fix-a-flat can, tire gauge, chain lube, and rain gear. Maps if it's new territory.

Usually the cell, which of course doubles as the camera, tool pouch that came with the bike, VT/NH map, and depending on the temp, a turtleneck to wear under the coat.

And having gotten a flat while riding, you'd think I'd have learned to carry a plug kit but I don't. Unfortunately that would require having a tank bag at all times, the space under the rear cowl on a GSX-R is almost non-existent. I'm not sure how well CO2 cartridges would fare sitting in there on a hot day. And I'd be the one to forget to take them out.

I think I'm falling in to more of an ADV rider type than a sport-biker, and I think the next bike will be of the ADV or sport-bagged type. I don't like only having when I can fit under the seat. Only thing I keep under the seat is paperwork which I hope I won't have to use anytime soon.

I keep a large bag on the back seat. Lately I've been keeping my chain lube in there just because better there than on the shelf. I have a GPS mount on my handlebars and any rides that aren't to-from-work I clip it in. My phone always rides shotgun in a barmount next to it, doubles as a clock. I'm new to this, so I'm trying to figure out EXACTLY what kind of tools I need to make the smallest but most comprehensive tool kit. OEM kit is long gone. Once I make that, I won't leave home without it. I just can't stand the idea of being stuck without the means to fix something simple. Seems like a fix-a-flat type product would be wise to add, though I'm more interested in CO2 or a pump with a plug-kit (suggestions?). I've also got a towel and an orange vest, but I've learned my next jacket will be hi-vis cause I'm sick of messing with the stupid mesh thing.

Tank bag usually contains EZPass, iPod-Bluetooth or phone bluetooth to chatterbox, visor cleaner, 5hr energy. Sometimes cheap cigars, gum usually, wallet... Now don't be thinking about taking my stuff!

Longer rides I throw the hard bags on, and the list grows exponentially. Some rides, even shorter ones, I get the Zumo 550 out and use it. If cold, I'm plugging in Gerbings jacket liner and gloves.
