well, you know what I mean. The rc390 and the drz are similar class bikes? on/off road, SM, whatever?

OP doesn’t want a dirt bike. OP wants a fun lightweight backroads commuter, and he is willing to spend $5500 on it.

No. I have no idea what you mean.

DRZ400S/E and DRZ400SM are pretty substantially different animals. Like the difference between a CRF300R and an CRF250L.

Gotta jump in, the RC390 and DRZ are not similar bikes. One is a small sport bike, one is a standard in dirt-ish looking pants. Correct that to say Duke390 and DRZ and you'll have a closer comparison.

I thought the duke had been mentioned and just happened to see it on CL so I thought I would share, which is irrelevant now because it sold. Anyone here?

There’s also a ZRX at Moms right now that needs fork seals and sprockets and brakes.... only $1500 tho.... anyone?

    Re: Anyone ride a DRZ?

    Won’t be riding dirt .
    You can’t find a SM for 2k.
It’s a year old, one owner with 850 miles completely stock. I don’t want a 10 year old DRZ that I’ll need to convert over to Supermoto and 12,000 miles of wheelies.
I see this year & condition selling for more so I figure try one out.
Took a couple out and looked at 4, one seemed like a pretty good deal & I like to buy as clean & stock as possible. Parts are cheap and plentiful.
Like I said maybe I’ll hate it after some seat time. I guess there is a reason we have many models and choices .

For not a lot more, you could buy my ZRX. Fully modded up nice, but cosmetically it's not pretty.

I bought one this past spring. I use it for fun and nothing involving the highway. Love it, and all it’s analog carbureted plainness.

show me a mint DRZ for 2k
I rode it today and not as smooth as the Honda As in throttle but faster and I enjoyed it a ton.
Feels great with the seat concepts seat also.

    Re: Anyone ride a DRZ?

So it was fine if someone bought your S for your asking price of 5k but I paid 500 more in 2019 and it was a mistake? You are funny....
who gives a Fuck if it’s mint , I do
I like clean road bikes same for my vehicles, no Taco Bell wrappers on my floors.
I bought it and loved riding it today.
Maybe I’ll hate it after a year but I do know I’ll still be able to toss it easily as they are a quick seller in the Spring of course.
It’s my 8th bike and I liked it , who knew

Best of luck, honestly. I agree you’ll be able to flip it if you don’t like it.

    Thank u
I’ve had many bikes and yes I think these are a little rough around the edges and willing to give it a shot but I think I just fell in love with the KTM 500 super Moto

Now we're talking! This has kind of been the point all along; for 5 grand you can get something on the pointy end of the spear.

Now. I'm not sure you should go for the 500. Are you sure you want something that maintenance intensive and powerful? Won't you poke your eye out? Think of all the time you'll be spending changing oil and adjusting valves.. then budget for a 4-stroke top-end!

Really? I haven't even checked the valves on my 250F. These things are nearly bulletproof.

Came out to this thing next to me last night. I think I like the 650 less than the 400? So you made a good choice?

Yeah. The air cooled 650 didn't feel that much more potent than the water cooled 400 to me. I found the ergos kinda weird too. I guess the big bonus is the 6-speed trans (DRZ400 is a 5-speed). Other than that, easy pass.

DR650's are crazy popular with older types buying into dual-sports though. I guess it is cheaper than dropping an 800GSA over and over again.

I assume its like a KLR...which I have ridden and disliked incredibly. What's that PKism: it may be heavy but at least its slow?

DR650 is also 5-speed, but it’s wide ratio is much better than the DRZ. (The old DR350 had a nice 6 speed)

One of the draws of the 650 is the seat height is a couple inches lower than the 400-S.
With the sumo wheels on my 650, I’m almost flat-footing with 30” inseam.

I haven’t ridden a stock DR in almost a decade, but i know my 790cc one is way more potent than my friend’s 400.

    Re: Anyone ride a DRZ?

Coincidentally, I don’t hate the dr650. Maybe it’s just it’s general old timey air cooled xr vibe, or seeing it around so much with the adv crowd, but it’s fine for a general dualsport. I feel like the drz was just such a letdown for trying to be the newer, more modern and advanced version. Big swing and a miss there.
