So I been riding 2 up lately and my bike is really not liking it. Slow speed turns are really tough and the bike just feels like it does not want to turn at all even at speed. Pretty sure it's a tire pressure/suspension thing but my question is being 145lbs soaking wet with a bike set for me , what can I do to make an 03 636 ride better with another 115# on the back. I'm a noob at riding 2 up but damn my bike felt really awkward.
ps and how the hell do you protect your junk in jeans?
Tell the girl to stop riding like she's your backpack.
tell her to sit on the seat and hold the tank and ride with the bike she'll enjoy it much better and it'll give ur gunots a rest![]()
Welcome to riding on a "lowered bike". Increase preload and rear tire pressure a tad.

She was pretty good to be honest, one hand on me and one on the tank although I did get the death grip from her thighs: Had to tell her to stop baking fucking cookies back there a couple times because I could feel her moving in the bars. Is that normal? And it was her first time on a bike so I'll cut her some slack but I would love to be able to make a few adjustments to make the bike handle better for 2 up rides while not fucking with everything.
+1 on Tire pressure and preload.
Also have her hold on more with here legs.
She should be looking over your inside should on the turns. Not really leaning but moving slightly to the inside.
Some pre approved signals will help her too.
For my wife and I this works well.
If I give her a couple quick taps on the left knee then that is Hold on I'm gonna make a pass or accelerate hard.
If I touch the outside of her left calf we are making a left and if I touch her left thigh we are making a right turn.
I also try to signal decell by making very blatant throttle blips on the first couple down shifts.
Above all else be very smoooooth.
Yeah, that's great advice & all, but none of that's gonna help in slow speed maneuvering.
Sportbikes handle like trucks at slow speeds with a chick on the back... period.

G..
Have you tried a C-14 yet? Handles 2-up really well!

Chapter 14
A very good segue into 2-up riding.
Outside of reading books, I tell my passengers to grip with their thighs, keep their torso inline with mine, hands on the tank for braking, hold onto me when accelerating.
I'll have to read that chapter again, trust me her hands and thighs were juust fine and although I told her to stay inline I don't think she was. She is a lil on the young side so was really scared, anything you think I can do to to the rear susp on the fly paul to make the bike handle better 2 up?
buy her a bike.

The suspension tweaks and responses on pillion behavior and communication are right on. That said I've done many miles of two up on all kinds of bikes out of my 130-140k and some bikes just don't work that well even with lots of experimenting with settings. They do it but fell like a completely different machine two-up, sometimes not all bad but still odd. My CBR1100XX was "ok" and my R1200RT is AWESOME but my CBR600F2 and Nighthawk 700S in particular really sucked and a few others were in the middle. It might be just wheelbase or wheelbase and weight location but the differences are night and day. My RT feels essentially the same but transitions and accelerates slower with the "feel" the same... but it was made for this. YMMV.
It might be worse in my case as I'm 5' 7" and a little and rarely dated anyone under 5' 10" except my wife who is only 1 or 2 inches taller than me. Glad sportbikes weren't as "stepped" in seat arrangements then as they are now!

I ride a lot of 2 up on my RR and I put the pre-load to the top and I bump my tire pressures up from F-31 R-30 (cold) up anywhere between 5-8lb depending on weight of the girl. I would say F-36 R-35 for a 110lb girl.
For the nuts on the tank, i found stomp grips help me hold on better and stop me from sliding forward very easily. i find myself gripping harder with my legs when i ride two up, it's actually a good work out for your legs.
As told to me by a friend, if you have a steering damper free it up a little because at slow speeds it will help with the balance.
I've riden with a few good girls that you can't even tell are on the back and a couple that are leaning on you like a friging couch. it's all good fun though if she's a hot piece of ass!![]()

Good to know, yeah I'm sure I was a good 5 # low on the tires and run a scotts damper pretty high but figured it needed to be turned down real quick during a u-turn. I'll mess with the preload/damping as well, thanks guys
Well I didn't think it would be a big deal so I didn't even bother checking my tires or anything as I see plenty of fat guys on 600's, as far her leaning I think she needs more seat time so she was instrucked to just stay planted. I'm going to check my tires after work today, and (kenn this is not dirty! lol) how much does the rear compress when tim gets on? Seemed as though the tail dropped more than it should have.

My spring is a bit on the heavy side of me alone, so I'll give one for the team and she can ride with me...
Seriously, increase the pre-load but be prepared for a bumpy ride. The reason they put rear seats on sport bikes is to more easily convince the gf/wife that it would be a good time for both.
