    Question Riding gear

Ok, I have my helmet( well kinda mine) ..I just won gloves on E-bay, and I got a mesh jacket with elbow and back protector. What else do I need??

    Boots??
I think I'm going to just use my Bates for now( Trooper boots with zippers). Not sure what to get.. I looked at the stores around here, but I don't really want Harley boots. And those are the only ones I have found.

Any ideas? Am I going to have get any stuff for the bike itself?? Like lube, etc....

I know I'm such a newbie...Any help will be appreciated..

if you are looking for some all out riding boots, i think AXO makes some womens as im sure other companies do too.
if you want protection without the burden of big bulky boots then check out the ICON riding shoes, JOE ROCKET and A* make some too

hey virginrider. my station boots are bates. ive ridden with them before, and they are great riding boots. granted they arent specifically designed as riding boots, but they work until you save up to buy the real deal. i dont have much other gear other than what you mentioned. jacket, gloves, and helmet are the only actual pieces of motorcycle gear i own and they have always protected me (i went down last year wearing the above gear, and walked away with a tiny scratch).

    Just my 2 cents.

I rode for years without proper foot wear... and now that I'm trying to be better about gear, I bought a pair of Sidi's.

They're great boots and will offer a ton of protection in the event of a get off.

BUT... They are hard to get used to after so many years of tennis shoes, hiking boots, etc.

I suggest that you try to start off right and get used to riding with proper boots from the start if that's the direction you're heading.

+1 for the sidi's. it can be difficult to find boots that fit women. at least in my case the sidi's fit the best.

Unfortunately, it is pretty hard to find good riding boots for women. Men certainly have the advantage here. I had to reduce myself to buying Harley riding boots. They work great, and they go with jeans. I don't like riding in anything else at this point.

I too wear the harley boots on the street, but my track boots are Alpinestars 4W SMX (4W = for women). They fit perfectly as they are made for a womans foot.

Glad to hear you got a jacket, but it is getting late in the season for a mesh jacket. Maybe you could wear the boots you have for now and get a warmer jacket for the fall.

Don't forget pants. Not ripping on women here cause guys are just as bad but why the hell do new riders universally ignore the fact that jeans != protective gear?

You wouldn't ride in leather pants and a long sleeve T-shirt but for some reason it is perfectly natural to do the opposite.

when I had my getoff at the dragon in 2003, proper riding boots saved my ankle ... i was able to walk away from the incident because of the A* SMX boots.

I find them to be just as important as the helmet

I understand the question. Again, men have the advantage. It seems that in the past few years, gear is actually becoming more available for women. I just bought my first pair of leather pants a few weeks ago, and they were actually MADE for women. That's part of the problem...

Men do have the advantage, yes, but there is a TON of gear available out there for women. It is however, difficult to find the correct fit and without a place that stocks gear for women its a game of buy and return before you find the right stuff. It seems everyone has an issue...mine...the legs are too long for 'off the shelf' gear.

Places like kneedraggers.com has a great return policy.

    7xl - are they serious???

i've got the same issue as jaynnus with the riding pants not being long enough. i took a ride down to vanson's and had them make me a pair to fit me right. i've also been happy with the fit of my dainese stuff which i got from moto market in acton,ma. - they carry a lot of stuff specifically made for women.

i got my sidi boots from seacoast sport cycle in windham (i think they are now located in derry).

I wear a man's Joe Rocket mesh suit. My husband bought 2 when he started riding and I just took one over (with his blessing of course ) It's pretty good except I feel like a football player with the big shoulders I wore his Teknic boots for the MSF, but I didn't like them and I've been wearing sneaks since then. The Joe Rocket suit works fine for me - I suppose if you want to actually come across as a girl on the bike, then it wouldn't be so good

I feel for you, we (men) do have it relatively easy. But living in a place like the "upper right hand of the lower 48" you quickly learn that there are few places to find good riding gear, therefore you need to be creative. So with that; If you like the idea of Sidi boots, Motonation will send you various sizes (they will charge you for them all) then you can try them on and send back what you do not like and they will refund your purchase for them. They are pretty cool about it too.

Or you can drive to multiple states trying on gear at every shop...not that I EVER did that...
