Riding in NH

I have my Mass permit (going for license in two weeks) and I was wondering if it was legal to drive in NH before I get my license? If anyone knows, it would be greatly appreciated.

I could have sworn you had to stay in MA but the rule book on the RMV website doesn't mention it so you may be OK.

However keep in mind you can't be out after dark and if you are under 18 you have a bunch of other restrictions as well.

Your permit is not valid out of state, unless the state you ride in recognizes out of state permits. You will have to check with NH to see if they require their own state permits only.

Cool, thanks for the heads-up. I didn't think it was valid, but it was worth a shot. Bringing a friend to MOM's to look at helmets, and I know she would rather go on the bike than in the car. Can't wait to get my license so I don't have to worry about stupid stuff like that.

Either way with a permit you should not be carrying passengers.

BTW there are lots of closer places to look at helmets, and then you can just order online once you know what you want.

Even if MOMs is cheaper then the shops in your neighborhood they are probably still heavily marked up compared to the online places. And the online places are more likely to actually send you the box, instructions, and accessories that belong with the helmet.

Ben, I hear ya about the price difference. I am just taking her there cause they have a good variety and she has no clue what she wants. Will probably end up getting it online in the end.

M.O.M. South is in Foxboro MA which is a hell of a lot closer to you. They even have the new Snell approved Vega helmets which can save you a ton of money. Don't get caught riding with a passenger while only having a permit in Massachusetts. You will feel like you've been fooked by an elephant when the state is done with you!

ZX, I hear ya about the riding with a passenger, only did it once to see if she liked it, now she is hooked. Only going to MOM's in NH cause we are going to meet one of her friends up there. Thanks for the advice though, still haven't been down to the one in Foxboro.

Brockton Cycle is prolly a better place to try on helmets, they are also an online marketer, and thye have better deals in the store sometimes than they advertize online

MA Permit:

-Cant ride after sunset/before sunrise
-Cant ride with a passenger
-Cant ride out of state

I understand the passenger and daytime riding ones, but the out of state is kind of silly. If you live on a border town like I do, its just as easy in some cases to go out of state for whatever, as it is to drive in-state.

One added wrinkle ...

You can only apply and pay for a permit once!
And that sucka is only good for 30 days!

It expires before you take the test ...

1. You have the take the MSF.
2. Truck your bike in or have a friend ride it in.

You show up on a bike with no permit, you fail immediately.

When I used to live in Maine, I would apply for a permit every year that I rode ...

Damn, I drove out to Manch this weekend in my car. I guess the speed limits in NH are just "suggestions", as I was well past the speed limit in my car to just keep up with traffic.
