    Riding pants/ jeans

So up to now, iv been riding in jeans.. normal, tear when you fall off the pony and hit the asvault jeans.
Broken 4 bones in one year to two separate accidents (1 car 1 bike lost).
Neither of these were at all my fault..but anyone who knows my luck knows that doesn't matter, it will happen again.

I'm looking to finally spend SOME money on my gear and ditch the joe rocket jacket and gloves, but my first priority is pants.

What does everyone think of riding jeans? Do they hold up? Are they comfortable? Is there one company that delivers better?

Or is the general belief that I should get some kind of non-jean riding pants?

    Re: Riding pants/ jeans

I wear Cortech Riding jeans. They are better than Levi's not as good as true riding pants, be it textile or leather. They do have Kevlar on the ass, hips and knees. They also have removable, positionable knee cups. They are heavier than Levi's so that translates to hotter, etc but I like them.

    Re: Riding pants/ jeans

I have some Icon riding jeans that have kevlar in the knees. They are very baggy. They might not shred on impact, but I'd imagine I'll still get a nasty rug burn and they have nothing in the way of armor to cushion any falls. I know you can get jeans with armor or armored baselayers or wearable armor, but if I'm headed out for some spirited riding, I'll take the leather pants I got this year.

It basically boils down to risk management. They are heavier and hotter than any fashionable jean (some of my carpenter jeans are about as heavy) but not as heavy, hot, or protective as leathers or even textiles.

I'm not at all concerned about weight unless its a large contributing face to heat..
The leathers worry me because of the breathing problem at low budget. The more padding the better for sure though... I'm expecting to have to sacrifice something.

    Re: Riding pants/ jeans

I went with Draggin Jeans. Plently of kevlar on the ass and knees. The fit is decent and not to baggy so you don't have to worry about thug life. There is enough room for knee pads which IMHO is one of the most important areas.

Go on their site and they have pics of where the kevlar is. If you are looking for straight fit get the regular style. If you want baggy as hell get the relaxed. I bought both to try them on and the relaxed went back the same day due to how huge they were.

My advice is to not cheap out on gear. If you do and are (and remain) serious about riding you will wind up going back and buying the good stuff later anyway.

That said, I have no experience with riding jeans and am in for everyone's suggestions.

On their site they have a video where they strap a guy to the back of a truck and drag his ass for a few minutes. The end result is a little tear on his ass. Pretty freaking impressive.

My suggestion would be 3 season mesh/thermal lined overpants.

I bought some riding pants a while back ago, they are textile with knee protection. Foam hip and thigh protection. Some of the same foam padding on the tailbone area.

    AGV riding pants

Are these pants overpants, or just riding pants?

I clicked not expecting to bite at all, but i actually think they could be a great option.

Kind of Off topic but has anyone tried out these Dragging Liners?
    http://www.dragginjeans.com/ProductI...ductid=DLINERS

Seems like a good solution since you can wear them under your normal jeans or in my case under dress pants to work. Any thoughts?

I wondered about these as well. I like the idea of an impact pad as well as an abrasive material though. My last down, most of my injuries were due to the actual impact to the ground and not the slide. I did lose skin as well because my thin pants shredded, but i like the idea of the thicker materials as a buffer.

These aren't over pants at least their not suppose to be. For me I can wear them over a pair of jeans, I am a 32waist size in jeans and bought the riding pants in a med. I don't wear them w/ jeans I would imagine you would sweat like a mofo on a hot summer day. The pants themselves are great if your going riding the entire day, they function just fine as pants and have functional pockets for your wallet and cellphone. I suppose you could get away with using these are an overpant but the pants loose their ability to vent to cool you down, if you don't have much of a commute then I guess it's not really much of a problem just change in and out at work but their not really intended for use a an overpant. If you own a AGV jacket the pants and jacket zip up together supposedly there is a zipper on the lower back but I don't own their jacket

Whenever you shop for gear, always make sure it's going to have a purpose and think about what it's going to be used for. Are these pants going to be used for a commute to work then you might want to look for an overpant to go over your work attire. Are you looking for something that could be worn casually off the bike then your probably looking at a pair of ballistic jeans. Are these pants going to be worn exclusively for ridding of days where the majority of the time is spent on the bike like a long bike trip to Laconia, then something like these AGV pants are a good budget conscious choice.

Really curious, how many of you guys wear a 1 piece on the street? If I'm on a long group ride I'll wear the 1 piece, but other wise I'm still wearing Levis, which is bad because I've crashed tested them, and they get a failing grade.

If I'm commuting to somewhere, like a restaurant or hanging out with friends at say a lakehouse all day, I wear jeans and full gear. If I'm going out at all on a spirited ride through the twisties it's going to be my one piece.

Wearing a once piece gives you that extra confidence, and for me allows the concentration more on riding instead of "shit what if i go down" types of hesitation.

plus you have to keep your knee tucked up more if your not wearing a suit...knees hitting asphalt hurt.

    Re: Riding pants/ jeans

I think I just about have the perfect closet of riding gear now:

    - 1-piece leather suit, complete with knee pucks and the ridiculous graphics (+10HP, I am sure)
    - 2-piece leather suit, fits much looser and much more comfortably, not nearly as good padding
    - (coming soon) 2-piece textile suit, featuring fancy waterproof-ness and commuter friendly features

I also have a couple of shitty textile jackets and some mesh textile pants. Most of that I now wish I'd not bought.

I'd love to add some decent reinforced jeans or cargos to the mix. I admit it, I sometimes head out in just jeans and the leather jacket from the 2-piece set. I sometimes ride in work boots or sneakers too. ATGATT? Not here. Not quite anyway.

I hear you, the 1-piece leather will probably never get worn except for track days. It is way too uncomfortable and way too much of a pain in the ass to commute or cruise in.

I always wears leather jacket, helmet gloves and riding boots, but I just don't have the pants, which is my reason for asking. I want a pair of pants that will clip to my A* jacket, but they're just so expensive.

I honestly think id just look like an asshat in a full one piece suit.. I like and enjoy long rides, but even at my spirited level, i am not a fast rider. If i look like a racer and ride like im on a tricycle, im not doing Vanson any favors.
