    Rigging headlights on track plastics?

Suggestions on rigging ghetto-fabulous headlights (they don't have to work well, just make me barely legal) on track plastics? I miss street riding but don't think I will have functional street plastics in the near future. Discuss....

    1.) track plastics=no lights=not street legal=no street riding for me=sad
    2.) street plastics=lights=street legal=street riding=happy

    I have track plastics, therefore:

    track plastics+lights=street legal=street riding=happy

Another question... Say the easiest thing ended up being cutting out the track plastics to accomodate my stock headlights, what would be the best thing to use to cut them so I don't trash them?

I think you should find some auxilary lights that clamp on somewhere. kind of like the ones cruiser guys mount on engine crash bars or those ones that mount near the bottom of the forks. remember you also need a tail/brake light and directionals.

Yeah... I think I can trim my street undertail (all the tabs broke off) to mount on my race tail with some good 'ol zip ties so I will have my license plate bracket, tail light, rear turns, etc.

LOL! I got that part..re-read my question...particularly the end of it.

what I meant, is: why would you add lights to the track plastics, when you could just get an OEM upper w' lights on it to swap into its place?

I figure the fit/finish/mount and light patterns would be better with an oem headlight setup (turn signals included).

is the upper fairing on the track plastics integrated into the lower part?

Acerbis cyclops street fighter headlight. It won't throw a ton of light but it will be enough to get you by and its dot aproved and really easy to mount. You'd have to pull your upper to use it though. Where are you stock plastics?

I don't know about Mass but in VT the lenses for headlights and turn signals are supposed to have DOT embossed on them to pass inspection. If you are looking for a truly street legal setup (ie able to pass inspection) than you may want to go the dremel route instead of the Walmart POS fog light direction.

Because I havn't found a good OEM upper to replace the one I just busted, because I have no $, and because I want to ride ASAP and I may not find a used upper in decent condition for a while (believe me, I've been looking) and don't want to lose out on the rest of the riding season.

Its not that easy to find OEM plastics for a 10 year old bike that are in decent condition...

I'm looking for a setup to make the LEO's happy(-er) if I get pulled over. My bike has a good inspection sticker until next May, I'm just looking for a quick and cheap fix to get me back on the road for the rest of the season...

    Wirelessly posted (HTC EVO "DROID" : Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2; en-us; Sprint APA9292KT Build/FRF91) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

You could take off all the plastics on the front and mount a round headlight.
It won't be pretty but it will work

Could you mount something under the front fairing above the wheel? Not sure of the clearance you have...
If you go the dremel route I have the regular one and the multimax that you can use :-)

Check out the Delkavic products on Ebay.

I got the Red bull set shipped for $600. Excellent fit.

Even thought they say that there is a long time to ship them out. Call them before you order. I got mine in like 3 days.

    This would look sharp..

    I know what you like.

The only thing about these is that they can scratch somewhat easily. I picked up a tail section on the track and put it on the tank cover. There were some light scratches from the tail section shifting around. But for replacements that fit like OEM, Look awesome, and save you a ton of $ it is well worth it.

Just don't forget, the days are getting shorter and it would suck getting caught out at night with shitty headlights.

Re: Rigging headlights on track plastics?

My wife actually rides my racebike on the street. I have a cafe style headlight that attaches to the fork and a bolt on tail/turn for the rear. Add bar end mirrors and a kickstand and you are complete. The entire bike goes from race to street in 20 minutes.

    from this:

    to this:

the whole thing cost me about $120 to get it set up for street riding. Maybe something similar?
