A Quincy police officer died yesterday from injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident while off duty Saturday, the Quincy Police Department said.
James Cochrane , an eight-year veteran of Quincy's motorcycle unit, was taken to Boston Medical Center after his motorcycle was struck by a car on the Southern Artery (Route 3A) in Quincy.
Police declined to provide details about the crash. The Massachusetts State Police are helping to reconstruct the scene, and the Norfolk district attorney's office is investigating.
"Anything that's good about a person, he was," said Pat Dalton , who had been Cochrane's neighbor for 12 years. She said Cochrane was the ideal neighbor, quick to help with household chores and anything else that needed to be done in the neighborhood.
"Anybody who knew Jamie had a friend," Dalton said. She and her husband, Jim, spent much of Saturday night at the hospital with Cochrane's family.
Dalton said Cochrane, 38, grew up in Quincy, where he met his wife, Maria (Styles) Cochrane . They had two dogs.
Jim Dalton said Cochrane was considerate. ``He would come over to mow our lawn, but he wouldn't do it before noon because she sleeps until then," he said, referring to his wife.
Jim Dalton said Cochrane loved going to hockey games and also liked to race his motorcycle in New Hampshire

Rest in Peace James.
