    RMV sucks

When Man God sold his ZX-9 to a guy on here, they made it difficult to transfer the title for a stupid little thing on the title. Now I'm trying to put my bike on the road, and they're giving me a hard time for a little mistake that was made on the title when it was transfered to me. Now I have to bring them a notarized affidavit of correction and only then will I be able to put the bike on the road. They suck!

Oh and on top of it...they're having me pay sale taxes on the $3K I paid for the bike. GREATTTT. Ughhhh.

What exactly is the problem where they wont issue you a new title but they will still charge you for the sales tax? Sounds a bit backwards. I wouldnt pay the tax until they are willing to accept the old title for a new one.

    RMV sucks

Oh no, I didn't pay the money YET. It just sucks because it is something I didn't know I would have to do...I bought a car only once in my life and I didn't remember I had to pay taxes on a used vehicle bought from a private party. It's just money coming out of our pocket that we didn't expect.

Oh and I used to say DMV (Department of motor vehicles) until someone told me a few days ago (not sure who) that it was RMV (Registry of motor vehicles)

anyway they can get money they will. Technically the dude that sold is supposed to pay tax on the sale as well.

No, whether you buy a vehicle from a private party or dealer, you pay sales tax when you register it.

    The seller doesn't pay tax!

    Eh.. they suck with titles.

I paid my VFR off about 6 weeks ago, AHFC released the lien in like 24 hours, but MA still hasn't been motivated to mail me the title.

OTOH, if someone was to just *give* you a motorcycle on account of they are just a wonderful person and in the habit of giving out vehicles as gifts...nobody pays tax. Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more.

Or just move to a real state that doesn't suck as much ass.

Umm....maybe we should have wrote a second "fake" bill of sales of the amount of let's say....$1500.00 so I wouldn't have to pay as much taxes on the bike! Oh that would be niceeee....

I tried that when I bought a bike before. If you write the sales price on the bill of sale really low, they'll just go by book value. If you buy from a dealer you always pay on the selling price though.

awww shit. I think you're right. So I guess I'm better off with paying taxes on the $3K rather than a higher amount, because even tho the bike do have a rebuilt title, I don't think they have a book value on rebuilt, I think they only have it on a regular clean title, which if I remember right is more than $3000 for a 2005 EX500.

    Nice try I guess....

OH, GREAT. The retail value in the KBB is $3765.00, but that would be for a bike in perfect condition with a clean title damnit. So they will basically charge me taxes on that amount, even tho my bike has a rebuilt title and has some damages to it?? If so, they're fuck*n money gobbling stealers!

You're talking about registration fees (the town portion is calculated based on vehicle value), not sales tax. They pay that in MA too, but they also pay sales tax when they register the vehicle for the first time.

Yeah think so, in NH the town charges us a certain $$$ figure every year to get our registration sticker, which is based on vehicle value. The state charges us another $$$ figure every year based on vehicle weight. Dunno what the difference is whether you call it a tax or a fee, I guess people feel better when it's called a fee cause they think they're buying something.

Yup, excise tax I believe. Youpay that for your car and for your bike. It's a small amount, something like $15 for a bike if I remember right, and something like $25-$30 for the car...can't remember...
