In MA, everyone uses NADA: insurance companies, lenders, and the registry. I've never heard of the RMV using a seperate list.

    RMV sucks

I had to fill out one of those notarized affadavits of correction when i registered my bike because i wrote "dave" instead of "david" on the back, i didnt even think about of it. Better yet, they let me know after i'd been sitting in line for 45 minutes, and the registry was closing in 45 minutes, on a friday afternoon.

Yup, the mistake on the title is with my last name, my husband last name was written down instead of my maiden name (nobody's fault, I just use my husband's last name from time to time, but I can't use it for important papers and the seller didn't know that) and also one box about the mileage shouldn't have been checked, but it was kinda confusing, so anyway, she crossed the mistakes, corrected them on the title and initialed it, but apparently it was not good enough for the RMV and now they are asking for an affidavit of correction.

    RMV sucks

    sales tax once
    excise tax every year
    registration every year
    inspection every year

list goes on but u should already know that already, that shouldn't be news to you... I think I paid 380 bucks in cash to register and transfer the title on my bike when i got it.

U want the bike? Pay up & shut up.... or at least shut up

Sorry to har about the Title stuff...
One time I tried to white out a typo
on a title and learned the hard way !

    About the taxes though...
one thing to remember is that some of the taxes you pay go to fixing roads...

No, she's paying tax in MA. It makes zero difference where you buy the vehicle, it's where you register/insure it.

So if you live in NH and buy a bike in MA, you don't pay tax. You live in MA and buy a bike in NH, you pay tax, in MA.

By the book they're suppose to charge the buyer sales tax on whichever amount is higher... the sale price or the book value.

Yearly excise tax is also calculated on book value, down to a minumum of $5.

yeah I called you earlier today about the bill of sale, now that I understand it is based on the book value (most likely), it won't make a difference indeed. Like Oreo cookie said, I'll suck it up.

Thank you for sending the notarized paper Vicki.

Already tried that!!! What happened when I went, I brought a second fake bill of sale for like $1000. She looked up the value of my bike and charged me a sales tax on the value.

She said whatever is higher (what you paid for the bike, or the value of the bike) is what you pay the sales tax on.

That doesnt work in R.I. if you buy private sale it doesn't matter what you payed you have to pay taxes on the total value of the vehicle.
If you buy from a dealer or wholesaler you only pay taxes on the purchase price.

Why would a seller have to pay taxes too? If you sell something you don't pay taxes for selling it. Besides it came from NH and they don't have sales tax.

Oh and on top of it...they're having me pay sale taxes on the $3K I paid for the bike. GREATTTT. Ughhhh.

If I remember correctly, excise is $15 on the thousand. My old SV was $6100 new and I ended up paying just a tad over $90 for excise.

As for sales tax, I think it entirely depends on which RMV agent you get, or if you do it through your insurance company. I use Amica and they can handle the registration/tax/plates in house, and they charged me sales tax on the printed price ($1200) on my Bill of Sale for my FZR. I paid $2200 for it (just below NADA), but had $1200 put down on the BoS to save some money.
