Haha the beach itself isn't visible from the road (large dunes). If i could have gotten the bike behind the little pavilion there would be no way of knowing anyone was there from the street and the cops aren't going to go walking around the empty parking lot at almost 3am.

Oh well, one of those nights gone wrong lol.

You should only ride orange motorcycles, in the way that I direct you. And you have to drink pepsi not coke. That's my opinion and therefore you're an idiot for doing otherwise.

I never have nor would I ever submit to "roadside sobriety test", yes, I have been asked too, and my answer is always the same and very politely , I ask if I am under arrest, if so, I would like to consult with my attorney and I may submit to a blood/urine/breath test.

there are a multitude of reasons that would cause "failure" of a field sobriety test. Doing the test cannot help you in any way, it can only hurt you.

in general when I get stopped, If I am asked any questions I ignore them with by questioning if I am under arrest or he is going to giver me a summons, if not, I would like to have my license and registration back so I can be on my way

You're an idiot. The motorcycle must be red, it is the helmet that must be orange. The drink is Dr. Pepper, not Pepsi or coke.

You'now proven that you're unworthy of even looking at a motorcycle, nevermind owning and riding one.

I was the friend brian met with last night. You guys are miss understanding the time line yes we had 16 oz beers. But he got pulled over an hour after he left the place. We were there having dinner and just shooting the poop for over 2 hours. Got there around 8 didn't leave till after 1040. Was it irresponsible to have a beer while we were on our bikes probably. But its not the horrendously stupid act that alot of you arre making it out to be.

No, it was not irresponsible. Some people are just judgmental pricks.

Re: Roadside Sobriety test last night....( long read)

    Dave,

I can't speak for others, but I don't think it was "horrendously stupid." If anything, the single beer with dinner, while not my personal choice, is not a big deal.

If he was an hour into a ride that started at 10:40PM, then he's humming along at 85-90, while cold, stiff and probably a bit tired, at about midnight.

    A. What should the police suspect, a good kid who is running a little late and cold or some midnight pavement strafing yahoo? The odds favor the latter and all things considered, the police seem to have acted with pretty good restraint, IMHO.

    B. He increased his risk substantially by running that kind of speed under those conditions. While the beer is not a big deal and the clothing/temperature may have caught him a little underprepared, the speed was completely within his control.

These threads are good, this one in particular, if we can all learn something about how to work with LEO's and the OP has a genuine interest in improving his odds the next time this happens.

Finally, there's a little math to consider. A 2 hour ride at 80 covers 160 miles. The same distance at 65 takes 2:25. The visibilility lost at night from more speed would not be worth getting home 25 minutes sooner for me. And if the distance is less, the differential is less.

Someone should really do the math on how much quicker he would've gotten home.

South of the 16/Spaulding split? Isn't that a 55 MPH zone?!

    Yeah, I definitely wouldn't do 90 there, were I you. ... 70 tops.

I don't think anyone said this was horrendously stupid....or stupid at all? I didn't say that and as far as I can see no one else did either.

It wasn't stupid...probably just not a great idea. But what was even less of a great idea was not wearing enough stuff to keep from freezing. Based in his description, it sounds like he was probably two shivers short of hypothermia. But that wasn't horendously stupid either. Just poor planning as far as I can tell....

(When I was drinking I was pretty adamant at defending my right to drink....ask me how that worked out sometime!!!)

How do some of you guys see around the tips of your noses? Doesn't that limit your view of the road? That's dangerous.

No, when I'm in my cage, 4 is the minimum before I will think about driving. Any fewer than that and it's too easy.

Randy, I know you're trying to hoist me on my own petard, except I never said I was a model of what everybody else should do.

So go join Oreo in the ignore, gfy club.

My suggestion that the late hour, plus speed, plus lack of warm gear, plus a beer (last and least) did not add up to a good decision set is perfectly sound and you know it. So you pick one of those out so that when I say, yes I'll drive the cage with a beer or two, you can point out my hypocrisy.

So here's the deal. A motorcyle is more challenging to operate safely than a cage. The risk to me while on a motorcycle is greater than in a cage. Thus, I take more precautions. Does this mean I care about my own safety a bit more than I care about others, yep!

But you already knew this from other threads. I'm a conservative, I don't care about anyone but myself!
