The world's best-paid athletes
Cool, man/bro/dude.

Rumored to be making the switch over to F1 racing at the end of his contract? Ok, it would be very sad to see him leave the bikes behind but that would be absolutely incredible if he was able to become even an average F1 driver.
Rossi is making 1/2 what Schumacher makes, obviously moving to F1 is a smart career move.
Kudos for the genius who didn't sort the chart in the article by salary.
Still can't believe Tiger is #1, that guy has as much personality as a board. I guess golfers have a ton of money and are easy to sell to.
Perhaps there is some other method to his madness.Originally posted by benVFR

No kidding.. just not as useful when the article is about who is making what.
But this is the 21st century, you should have been able to resort them yourself.
Someone get me Maria Sharapova's phone number.

Rossi tested with Ferrari earlier this year and was running lap times that were just barely a second slower than Schmacher. Rossi was driving a 2004 car while Schumacher was driving the 2006 spec car. Watchout F1 !!!!!!!!!Ok, it would be very sad to see him leave the bikes behind but that would be absolutely incredible if he was able to become even an average F1 driver.

Isn't the 2004 car a v10? The 2006 car is a v8. If so it is not really a fair comparison.

is that his salary from yamaha or is everything included ie win purse money, advertizing etc.
This is correct. However, the 2006 spec car is faster, despite having 2 fewer cylinders. And, it is not a fair comparison, but it is pretty amazing that Rossi was lapping so close to Schumacher's times.Isn't the 2004 car a v10? The 2006 car is a v8. If so it is not really a fair comparison.

Schumacher will be the first billion dollar athlete in total value. Salary, holdings, investments, etc.
When Rossi actually starts racing against people in other cars, I'll be impressed.
Putting his hands in the air, like he just doesn't care.

I thought the 2006 spec cars were supposed to be slower and lower HP to keep the speeds down??Originally posted by odduc

They are now only 1.5 seconds slower than last year, and by the end of the year may catch 2005's times.
And the aerodymanic rules of 2005 which was supposed to slow them down by taking away downforce have now been pretty much negated. The teams now admit they will have all of that back due to development this season.
They will never stand still. The only way to slow down the cars or to lower the cost of racing F1 is to make it a spec car series like A1GP.
