I could see that, though he an Lorenzo were not the best of friends...

That would be awesome - but I'll be surprised if it happens.. His Yamaha performance was record setting...

    It's official: https://twitter.com/motomatters/stat...19970016382976

Thomas Baujard of @moto_journal has the scoop. MacKenzie spoke to Rossi at Yamaha's HQ in Amsterdam. He's signed the deal. Good job Tom!

I'm a huge Ducati fan but good for him that he left. Ducatis bike is fundamentally flawed and they can't accept that, they keep trying to figure out an ineffective platform and because of it they're losing bad (although there plans for next year sound promising)

I don't think Twitter counts as official...

    Example:

Yamaha to Rossi: Let's Make a Deal
    by staff
    Friday, August 03, 2012
Valentino Rossi's move to Yamaha in 2013 has evolved from a juicy rumor into a firm offer with an interesting wrinkle from the Crossed Tuning Forks, if Italian media reports are to be believed.

The Italian national sports paper, La Gazzetta dello Sport, reported Yamaha has offered seven-time MotoGP World Champion Rossi a two-year MotoGP contract, followed by a World Superbike ride in 2015.

Yamaha is said to be planning a return to World Superbike in 2014, and Rossi would serve a vital role in the technical development of the machine, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport report.

Rossi has expressed interest in Superbike in the past. He tested James Toseland's WSBK R1 in 2010 and his feedback on the bike was very useful according to Yamaha.

The Italian press is notoriously sensational, and Italian mainstream sports publications throw the most mud against the wall, hoping some will stick. But noted Italian motorcycle journalist Paolo Gozzi wrote this report for Gazzetta dello Sport, lending a smidge more credibility.

    Re: Rossi Back to Yamaha?

It may very well happen, much to my surprise.
I honestly felt too many bridges were burned when Rossi and Yamaha parted ways.
Next year should be interesting, even though interest in Moto GP has waned recently... riders changing teams, Ducati's new ownership, and many other shake-ups.
Lost in all of this is how relatively small a company Ducati is compared to the Japanese powerhouses.
