How to safely trade parts with an out of state forum member?

So I dont totally love the way my slipons fit. They are a 2 peice slipon, the muffler and a catalytic convertor midpipe. Because of the covertor mid pipe the mufflers can become a bit crooked after riding over bumps and such. I have everything tightened to the max but they still twist around and move a bit which pisses me off. Anyway a guy on my Aprilia forum wants to swap slip-ons with me. He has some nice carbon Arrows that were my second choice after the Akra's. I'm thinking of trading but he lives in Texas and I'm nervous about getting screwed. Has anyone done this and is there a way to do it and know for sure he sent his pipes and so on?

+1. I've bought and sold about 30 items through the AF1 forums without any problems.

Either that, or if its a new member, wait until others have traded with this person to see if (s)he's trustworthy.

An RR forum I'm a member of has a trader rating system for just this reason. It works similar to the eBay Feedback works.

Somewhat off-topic, but did you considering having someone tack-weld your current muffler setup?

With slip-fit car setups I have friends who have installed the system, positioned it to their liking, then put a couple small welds on to hold it in place. That way the muffler stays put, but you can still undo it if you need to adjust it.

paypal. send him money, have him ship, then get money from him, and ship yours.

you'll be charged fees though, but paypal covers you if he screws you over

i would check his post history. if hes sold before and has an honest record, id give the benefit of the doubt. obviously, easier said then done when dealing with $1k+ worth of exhaust stuff.
