Yeah I did my monster after I bought it thinking I would race it as a novice. I never raced it but I did get some good practice on safety wiring a bike though. Now it has that real street fighter look..... hahahahahahaha

    Re: Safety Wire Street Bike

Just curious. I was thinking of wiring some of the major ones, (Oil drain, filter bolts) since my bike vibrates so much, just that added piece of mind.

On a thumper, it makes sense to wire brakes (calipers, pins, and levers), oil plugs and filter. These things could back a porcupine out of a styrofoam hole.

Ive definitely spent a bit making sure things were tight. Most we're pretty good, but a couple needed some help.

If by safety wire, you mean liberal application of zipties to keep the wiring octopus under the seat, and the handguards attached, then yup!

    Re: Safety Wire Street Bike

Nope, safety wire is the painstaking process of drilling tiny holes in the heads of bolts so you can feed thin steel wire through and secure one bolt to another preventing them from backing out. It's done on helicopters, aircraft, racebikes, and other zero failure tolerance situations.

I haven't yet, but after a couple recent incidents I'll be SW'ing at least the main items on the Buell for the same reason...

Never did, but after viewing a 2 mile oil trail and a blown motor on a Honda (as inferred too in the above post) I am rethinking it as a cheap quick prevention policy
