    Possibly Bent Swingarm

I'm a newbie here at the forums so if this is the wrong place to post I apologize. I am in the market for a cheap track bike after putting my streetbike down at loudon last year. I was able to get my bike mechinally back together by last fall and took it out for about 2000 miles worth of riding. The bike moves, stops, and shifts fine however when I hit the corners something doesnt feel quite right...it may just be in my head because the bike has been put down...but is there a way to tell if something is bent?

I put new forks on it that are straight, and I replaced the back rim as the original now has a substantial dent along the edge, which tells me the swingarm also took quite a shock. Oh yeah..the bike is a 2000 R1 if that helps.

I have heard of a guy out towards boston that does frame measurements, but that sounds like it may get expensive. Any input would be helpful...thanks guys.

yep, call Peter Kates from GMD....hes here on the board too. He'll tell you what your options are, its worth the $$.

also, if it turns out that it actually is a messed up swingarm....you can get them cheap as shit on ebay. I'm not sure about R1's but swingarms for R6's go for like $50

Smash it on the other side and it should bend everything back into place.

    Could be the swingarm bearings...

A measurement is $100 with out the bodywork, $150 with. I'll work an estimate of repair once I have the measurement, but the range is $25 for a wheel alignment to $1500 for a big smash. If you replaced the forks because they were bent you most likely bent the frame. I can fix frames, subframes and swing arms much cheaper than any rip off on Fleecebay. Also if you replaced the forks due to being bent you definately have bent triple clamps. (Both, not just one, you can't bend one with out bending the other) Again I'll let you know after the measurement. Call with any question.

    Re: Possibly Bent Swingarm

I'm not even sure if the forks were bent, the lower triple clamp definitely was so I just found a whole straight fork assembly with forks and clamps and put those on the bike.

If I drive the bike down and remove the plastic, is this something that could be done in one day if scheduled ahead of time, or should I plan on leaving the bike there for a while?

It's best to leave it.That way if I find some thing you don't need to make another trip to drop it off, and you won't be riding around on a bent bike any more than necessary.

Just drop the bike off with your wallet stuffed in the frame

Better to spend 100 for piece of mind then maybe that weird sensation when you go into the corner will go away if its straight.
