    Re: School me: Ducati Monsters

Talked to the guy and he is absolutely sure that it won't shut off anymore as long as kick stand is up.

Also he forgot that he disconnected the wire on the neutral sensor when he first bought the bike cause he didn't like pulling the clutch in to start it.

    No response from Seacoast yet.

He went from "normally safety function" to "won't shut of anymore".

I don't know, that sounds suspect to me. I'd all lest want the neutral switch wire hooked up to you can see how it should work. If the lights is always on and the switch is disconnect I would expect the light will go out when you plug it in. Thought that works backwards to how I thought the system worked.

    For my own entertainment...

I'm looking at the wiring diagram for my 04 749, and it has (had) the switch on the clutch. I'm pretty sure they did not change much from 04 to 06.

the neutral is a switch to ground, completes circuit when in neutral (meaning if you unplug it the light will not come on)the Ducati test for the neutral switch is and I quote "Remove the electric terminal connected to the neutral switch. Position the ignition key to ON to switch on the instrument panel and ensure that the light turns on when the terminal is grounded. If the light turns on, the neutral switch should be changed." So if the guy unplugged it and taped it to the case I may be grounding that way.

The clutch switch completes its circuit to ground, completes circuit when pulled

The kickstand completes its circuit to ground, completes circuit when up

So in 04 you can start it on the sidestand IF you pull the clutch then you can let it out IF its in neutral. In 01 the sidestand HAD to be UP, which is why I bought the A/F harness kit.

You could not just unplug them to bypass the system. I had to build my own race harness and figure a way around these. All I did was cut the wires back as far as I could in the harness and hard wire them to ground. That way it thinks I'm always pulling the clutch and the kick stand is always up. Now the only safety is the neutral switch which still works and my neutral light works normally.

So the chances are that its not some Ducati computer issue and most likely a short or pinched wire when the suspension depresses right? Just want to make sure i don't have to pay out on some expensive computer to get it fixed.
I wouldn't assume anything. As it stands, the bike has an undiagnosed electrical issue. That is the only thing you're sure of.

If you don't hear from Seacoast, try Eric at Clubhouse.

Talked to Steve at ECS in NY. He said it just sounds like a loose or maybe a frayed wire somewhere.

Never got a response from Seacoast. Weird!

Not weird at all. I imagine they're focused on bikes that are in their shop rather than online/over the phone diagnostics.
I'm sure Seacoast gets inundated with calls when you have the top Ducati tech in the country. If you can't get it straightened out, Kyle and Co. will.

    Congrats on the new bike!

    Re: School me: Ducati Monsters

So to update, the wire for the neutral sensor switch was disconnected and grounded to the rear set. After connecting it back, it no longer shuts off when suspension is depressed while kickstand is down. I don't know why but it seems to have fixed it.

Now I just have to ride this thing
