    ScottOiler

So it's time I put some more bling on the Rex and KLR. Was thinking of tossing the standard kit on the KLR and the Touring kit on the Rex.

    Thoughts/opinions on their system?

I know RandyO, the Man-Ho, used one on his SV. Made a little bit of a mess but who cares.

Also looking around for the best prices. Looks like about $160 for the standard, $180 for the Touring.

I've already let you use it once

I do plan to be there next time, just trying to be the good country mouse I am before the winter sets in. Still need to put in a chimney and build a shed.

While the Man-Ho may dig his final drive lubrication setup, many riders who've spent any time riding at his Six can tell you it's a PITA to clean the excess lube from their helmet.

holy crap, they have gone up in price, $190 for the touring kit where I bought mine riderstations.com I only paid $139 2 years ago for the one on my V-Strom

there is also a sock reservoir that you can subsitute for the touring kit

btw, I learnt, that the best place to mount IS NOT where I had it mounted on my SV, the stock rear fender under the license plate, to much vibration, on my V-strom, I have it under the seat, hardly any excess

Thanks Randy, I think I'll pick up a couple of the normal ones as I have problems with my license plate on the KLR splitting from vibration already.

Yeah, and my first group ride ever back in '03 was on that old CB750F SS blowing a smokescreen in front of SuperDave on his FZ1.

I am curious about how long chain/sprocket life is with a Scott Oiler. Without an oiler, I get about 25,000 miles with occasional waxing and very infrequent cleaning.

in my SV, without the scottoiler, I got 16k and that was with a fair amount of time cleaning, lubing & adjusting the chain

after the scottoiler 35,000 miles zero maintenance on my part (chain got adjusted whenever I had a new rear tire or swapped my dirty wheels)

front sprocket would be worn and chain & rear sprocket looked new

with my V-Strom 1k, I got only 17k with a scottoiler, but switched to a 530 chain & sprockets , I think that low milage figure is due to the 525 chain & sprockets with the 1000cc engine (SV1k, TLR,TLS all came with 530)

    Re: ScottOiler

Ordered two standard scottoilers. Kneedraggers.com had the best w/shipping price out there.

    $135 each.

As many of you know I'm a chain lube nazi, even going so far as to lube other people's bike chains. Since I moved I've been going through a lot more to keep my chains lubed since my commute has a lot of dirt in it. This is my main reasoning for getting a couple of these bad boys.

    Plus it's my kinda "bling"
