    Scrachted Bike..GOD DAMNIT

Yeah so tongiht I did a nice 2 hour ride around the greater chelmsford area. Everything went smooth, getting a feel for the bike and a feel for the road. After Im done I went to park it in the shed which you have to come backwards as fast as you can to get it over a lip. Well, as I was trying to go back and get it over the lip, the bike leaned to the right, where the ground is about 3 inches lower than on the left and while trying to put my foot down to catch my balance the bike fell over on to its right side. FUCK! Well nothing broke as far as I can tell, it started back up once I got it up again. However, the plastic is scratched in about 8 places and there are little circles of scratched up paint. I am not happy. I dont even have a fucking payment on the bike yet and its scratched. Any ideas on how to get these scratches out?

    FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!

i can relate, the day i brought mine home i was putting it in the garage and it fell and hit one of the other toys in the toy box. Scratched the lense and a cupple of other things. Not a good way to start our relationship. To answer your question, I have not found a "scratch remover" that works. I dont know if im just not using it right, or they're all just a load of BS. Good luck!!

i know it sucks and I have some on mine too but just remember - it's only a machine. I wish I could get rid of mine too but I wouldn't torture yourself over gettin em out. I was gonna try touch up paint for mine but was told that it will never match so not to bother.

    good luck

I hate to be blunt, but this is why a few people suggested that you buy a used bike over new. There would already be scratches on it so you wouldn't care nearly as much.

How big are the scratches? Where on the bike are they? Are they in the paint or decals? Are they just scuffs where you can still see the color of the paint? or can you see the color of the plastic under the paint? You could try to buff them out if you know a good detailer. Its amazing what a skilled person with a buffer can do to scratches. Good luck. I hope it doesn't look anything like the left upper and lower fairings on my last bike pictured in my avatar.

why don't you park your bike forwards so then you don't have to back over a lip???

btw, you must be bad luck, cuz i also dropped/knocked over my bike today!! TWICE!! (long story, but yes TWICE in one day!)

    it gets easier each time

Its on the bottom part of the right fairing. You can see white marks which are more than fingernail deep on it so those probably wont come out, but I might be able to make them look better. THere are also some scuffs in the paint, where you can still see the color but it is very rough. My friend details cars so he and I are going to attempt to get them out on tuesday.

To be honest, even if I bought a used bike, and I know you won't believe this but, I would be just as pissed if I got another scratch on it.

Live and learn I guess...god damnit!

I hear your pain, I too fucked up, I let a good, competent friend, take my Aprilia RSV Mille R off the pitbull rear stand and you guessed it..... he was not paying close enough attention and it fell over on the right side.....he made a vailant effort to stop it, but alass it fell..... one broken turn signal, and a few scratches on the lower fairing..... but the scratches are only on the decals and look like they would after being hit by some rock chips.....

Now no one, and I mean not even the Lord himself takes the Aprilia off or puts it on the rear/front stands, except me!!!

    Lesson learned.....move on.....

A shot of clearcoat can do wonders.

For scratches that don't go through the paint... Wet sand the damaged area, feathering/blending into the surrounding area. Mask an area just larger than that sanded area. Cover the area with a coat or two of clearcoat -- you want enough built up to fill in any swirls, and allow you to sand/buff it smooth. Remove the masking. Once the clear is thoroughly dry, wet sand again and finish with a buffing. The goal is to blend the repaired area into the undamaged area.

For damage through the paint, do the above after sanding & painting the base coat.

Working in progressively larger areas allows you to blend the repair into the the surrounding area.

Also to reply to elaineo's question, I back it in because the owner of the shed (girlfriends father) said to back the bike in. If I were to pull in forward, I would have to back it up a hill while trying to go over at 2 inch lip...not very easy.

Go back to your Kawasaki dealer... tell them you want the free touch up paint.

Never bought a Kawasaki but every car & bike I've bought, they gave me a free bottle of touch up paint when I asked for it. (Or multiple bottles if it was a complex paint job)

Last year I dropped a wrench and nicked my tank. That sucked. I was able to drop a little dot of paint and fill it in pretty nicely.

Hard to say if your scraches need paint, but you should ask for the touch up paint anyway.

Edit... BTW since you didn't take the course. You are probably doing the right thing backing the bike in. You should be on the bike while doing this, and you want to turn your head around and look where you're going. It should help you keep your balance. Don't use the mirrors while backing up.

I was turning my head around looking behind me, not using mirrors, the ground was uneven and the bike started to lean and i could not put my foot down. Over it went.

I am so glad to know that I am not the only one who does stupid shit like drop motorcycles in driveways, garages, parking lots, etc.

I thought I was the only dumbass, it's nice to know I'm not alone.

Well I just got home from a nice hour long ride before the rain starts in and it seems to run just the way it did before I dumped it, so I guess I'm over it!

I dropped my brand new $12K bike at a standstill right in front of a bunch of my friends 3 days after purchase....

A few scratches here and there and a whole lotta laughs....still.

Then a few nights later I dropped it again in my garage. This time breaking the clutch handle and the fast-idle slider and a very loud FUCK!!!!

But it still rides like a dream. It'll prolly drop again sometime...

Thing is, whenever riding I only glance at the speedo/tach every now and then so it could be riddled with scratches and broken bits and I wouldn't know the difference.

    Bike's are for riding.

Anyway, a little of the above posts will prolly do your scratches done.
