SD to Boston trip planning advice wanted

I'll be riding my VFR back from SD to Boston starting July 8. I'm planning on about ten days. Not looking to set speed or endurance records.

Any and all advice about routes, must sees, etc welcome.

Route 20 (I think) across NY is all kinds of boring I would advise against that road. Try making a "u" from SD back by going south towards Louisiana then follow the Appalachians north.

That's really my first decision coming out of SD. Should I go north along the PCH to SF and then head east, or shoul I commit to a southern route along some of old 66?

PCH definitetly. Start with the 101 north to camp pendleton from SD. Then jump on yhe PCH and follow it as far north as you can. Everyone i talk to here says that north of San Francisco is where it really gets good.
