    Seasons of Riding

I live in New England and refuse to let the weather dictate my riding. I have ridden at least once each month since December 2011. Here are some pics of 2013 riding season so far. One with the giant snowbank was 3 days after the Feb Blizzard.

Do all gsxr's look like that with the front tire stuffed into the fairing, or is something bent?

There not all that close, I have custom fairings and wanted a tight look. I got it as close as I could without rubbing.

So did he. He does all sorts of wacky shit like run car tires and studs and ride in the snow and shit. Lunacy to the regular motorcyclist.

Props for riding at this time of year.

    Re: Seasons of Riding

Im too afraid of getting road salt on the metal bits (bolts, nuts, screws, fasteners, etc.) that will absolutly corrode over time. Im really not great with keeping it clean, so keeping the salt off of it is my mission. A few times already this year Ive thought about goin for a rip....but I will wait.

don't believe that for one minute, depends where you are, town road, state road, there is plenty of pure salts of different types , sometimes mixed with sand, some places even sprayed on as liquid,

sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, and calcium chloride are all used

    Re: Seasons of Riding

I haven't gone more than three weeks without riding this winter. Rode twice in January, three times in February; with heated gear, it's easy enough to do. Only months I haven't gotten in any riding since at least 2007 (maybe even 2006, not sure now) were September-December 2011, when I was out with a broken femur.

I ran studded tires on my XR650L for several winters, but didn't bother the past couple of years because they only work well on hardpacked snow. As soon as piles of looser snow build up, they have trouble finding traction; and in untracked snow, forget it. And they're kind of squirrelly on pavement too. At some point in the future I might revisit the studded tires, but using a less aggressively knobby tire and fewer studs, so more rubber remains in contact with dry pavement. That would probably still work about as well on hardpack snow, but much better on asphalt.

Winter riding is a lot of fun when done right.
