Keep it, or sell it?

    Keep it, or sell it?

So here's the deal. I don't get to ride much anymore. Baby. If you have one, you know.

I still get to ride to work a few times a week when I'm not on dog daycare duty. But I split those days of riding between the Wee and ZRX (SV still has the track rubber on it from the TTD at Palmer last July, lol).

I'm finishing up swapping the head on the Jickser Sevenfiddy. Shortly it will be all back together. It'll need a set of tires and a battery, but other than that, it should be good for a while.

Question being, do I keep it and enjoy the flip-flop lyfstyle for a while (or actually use it as a track mule)?

I've ridden it, uh, once. Tossed my SV plate on it to take it to the gas station to fill it up. It was quick. It was light. It was uncomfortable. But it was also fun.

The newer supersports don't have a lot on this thing in terms of weight/power. Sure, they have newer suspension, brakes, electronics, but they are fairly similar in performance as far as trackdays or street riding. I'm not racing. I'm not Ghost Rider. But it's lighter than the SV and has nearly double the HP.

So, my current question in my head is do I sell it? Realistically speaking, it's not gunna fetch a lot. It's been down once, so the plastics are cracked. It's got about 30k on it. She's not pretty. But, she runs perfect. Cylinder walls are like glass. Forks are due for a rebuild, and I'm sure the fluids could use a flush on the brakes, but she's in completely workable condition.

I haven't owned a "super sport" since my Ducati 900ss. That thing was miserable to ride on long rides, but was my only bike. I can imagine a super sport is a lot more easy to live with when you can park it for a more comfortable ride other days.

I dunno. Already sold the Vmax. I'm not overwhelmed with bikes or anything. This thing could be fun to keep around as a cheap fast decent handling bike for trackdays. Or, sell it and put the money into a whole new bass rig (Couple GK Neo212 cabs and a Mesa Subway D-800 amp).

At one point during my multiple bike ownership period, I had a complete mental lapse and sold the fun bike thinking all I needed was the comfy semi-sporty bike. I am still looking for the proper knee operation to facilitate kicking myself in the balls. This is just one man's experience with abject stupidity, YMMV.

I'm in a similar situation and decided to list the supersport for sale. Will keep the sport tourer and soon pick up a SM for hooliganism.

Sell it. I don't see you doing many track days and I see you being perfectly content to rip the SV there. The SV is a far better street bike. A guy with your kind of epic riding skillage doesn't need that kind of power to smack noobs around anyway.

Sell it. I predict thee does not miss.

Will it depreciate in any meaningful way? If so, sell now. Any reason you wouldn't want to use the SV on a track day? Like you want the power, or want a bike you won't stress about damaging? Keep it. Even if it's just a few. Otherwise I bet you'll find yourself with a free weekend coming up looking at craiglist going 'shoulda kept the track beater'.

Complicated alternate plan is to rent it to friends.

Sell and simplify your life. You need brain space for your kid. I wish I could take my own advice.

What you have is easily replaceable...sell them!

I'm in a similar situation with my R1, no time/desire to ride it.

Don't think it matters...if you are always aiming to pick the right bike for the job, you're always going to nerd out and analyze the engineering benefits and flaws of every bike betting that it will fit your itch, buy it, be relatively unsatisfied with it, then repeat the process. NHbubba called it indecisiveness...I call it "can't make up my damn mind" and did it with 6 mini's in about a year LOLOL

kid is a lot of time/energy now, but I don't think the itch for the right bike ever goes away

but damn, if it were me, once is not worth tying up all that $$ if you haven't maxed out retirements and started saving for the kid's expenses

Yeah, but it would be fun to smack more non-noobs around at the trackraceday. I want to WIN the trackday!

Really though, just getting tired of always watching people walk away on the straights then get stuck behind them in two corners. Yes, I always get by eventually, but man, be nice to be able to just twist and get back to working on my own lines sometimes.

Re: Keep it, or sell it?

Why are you working on lines when it sounds like you need to be working on passing?!

Seriously though. ZRX, GSXR, SV650.. seems like a lot of overlap there.
Possibly excessive overlap between SV and DL too. So maybe sell off the SV instead (as well).
Although I honestly don't know what you guys see in the ZRX. So maybe sell that instead (as well).

    And about that Miata.

Re: Keep it, or sell it?

Miata is super fun now that she's got the aftermarket ECU. No need to sell that thing. It's the perfect foul weather commuter and grocery getter.

DL is comfy and loaded with luggage. That's my long distance bike, or my "I want to ride a couch to work" bike.

Rex is a wheel-E machine, reasonably comfortable and handles well, but is a bit heavy for track duty.

SV is light, great for Deal's Gap trips and trackdays.

Yeah, probably best to sell the jickser. Take a few bucks from the sale to get a new back tire for the SV and some Woodcraft rearsets finally. Maybe a steering damper. Eventually a full exhaust system.

In a race environment, I'm just fine at passing. But when you have 75hp less that someone at Palmer on an RSV4 or the like, making the pass on someone who is moving along pretty decent becomes an exercise in stubbornness and "how close can I get to race passes without upsetting people who are used to trackday passes". Man those hills are a killer.

Just once I'd love to be able to effortlessly pass people who are slower in the corners.

I hate to part with vehicles, call me a hoarder, still have my SV, I have always wanted to make a project, I'm willing to part with it an all my spares, but I am not actively marketing it. it's no longer going down in value, as parts become more rare, it is appreciating

Re: Keep it, or sell it?

Gonna go against the majority here, unless u are hard up for cash then keep it. What's it cost to keep an additional bike for another season or 2 even if street registered <500 with full insurance. I'd put this question off for atleast another year until you've lived with it, after you have some miles on it you might end up preferring it over your other bikes or it sits and you decide to sell it after not riding it at all.

If it's not going to fetch a lot but will put a smile on your face at a track day then I say keep it.
