setting up for 3 bikes in a trailer.

Last trailer question...

Its a 7x12 with a 30 inch v nose...

I have three stands, 2 condor front wheel chocks and one strapless rear stand.

Mostly will be 2 bikes with me, occasionally a third....

What would be the best way to do this?

2 bikers right next to eachother in the back, and one chock up in the v for occasional use?

2 upfront and a third single all the way at the back wuith the friont wheel between the others?

The stands will be fixed, so I kinda wanna get it right the first time....

I would think you'd want to take advantage of the v-nose and put 1 front & 2 rear. Also may make most sense from a weight distribution perspective.

We ran two up front next to each other and the third was in between the others with the rest of our shit on either side...

2 in back 1 in front with rear tire between the two front tires. If you got a side door this will still allow you to use it and get inside and not worrying about opening the door and have a bike right there. I’ll try to get my cad layout so you can see.

If you are mainly running two bikes, set up for that.

I like to have my two bikes centered over the trailer axle, and then arrange my gear to get close to the proper tongue weight. Sometimes this means throwing a heavy item behind the bikes.

I also built a work table/shelf along the front of my trailer, but I built it high enough that I could still roll a bike wheel under it if I had to carry a third bike.

I guess I dont fully get the tongue weight concept. Do I want to have as little as possible or an exact amount to balance things out?

Why would you need to put a heavy item behind the bikes?

Roughly 10% of the weight should be on the tongue.

If everything weighs 4000 pounds, you should have a 400lb tongue weight (put a stick under the tongue going down to a scale to get a number)

If you have a 600lb tongue weight, moving some stuff from the front of the trailer to behind the bikes will help balance things out.

Now... don't get anal about this, but it's good to do it one time to get a feel.

A trailer with too little tongue weight will sway a lot. With too much, the front end of your truck will have no weight and you'll look like a V from the side.
