    Shark Helmets?

Looking at the Shark RSR2. Anyone have any experience with them or know someone who does? I plan on trying one on obviously but wanted to get some input.

    Re: Shark Helmets?

I have a shark helmet..not the rsr2 but I love it. VERY lightweight, good ventilation, good noise reduction, comfortable, a TRUE no-fog windscreen.

I doubt the same qualities are left out on the rsr2 so I would deffinitly give it a thumbs up.

    Bad ass helmet!!!! Nuff said!

But make absolutly sure that it fits you. They don't fit everyone. They don't fit me.

If it fits you, call me and get a deal on one...
If it doesn't fit you... call me, and get a deal on an Arai...

    Re: Shark Helmets?

I have a Shark RSR2 Foggy Legend, and a Shark RSR Foggy. I have owned / worn / raced with: HJC, Shoei, Arai, SUOMY and the Shark is far and away my favorite helmet I've ever owned. Very light, and the 3mm thick shield is beefier than anything else you will see out there, makes you feel good knowing a rock thrown up won't make you lose an eye.

Their visors also come w/ tear off stanchions

Just an absolutely dope lid, the new RSR2's visor on / off mechanism is much better than the RSR but be careful when adjusting the screws that hold the latch on, they will break if you torque them too much!!! Ask me how I know

I honestly don't have a single bad thing to say about it, for me it's the perfect lid and the only one I plan on owning for years to come.

    Re: Shark Helmets?

I've never tried an RSR2, but my previous helmet was one of the lower-end Sharks and I loved it. Very comfortable. When it came time to upgrade I really wanted to get another Shark, but wound up with a Scorpion because it fits similarly and offers the same features as the Shark RSI I was looking at but costs $100 less.

Next time around I'll probably go back to Shark though.

I'm in Medford and have a L and an XL to try. They DO stretch / break in however, I'm going to go with the L and size M cheek pads next time 'round.

You dont quite want to go cheap and unreliable for first helmets like you do with a first bike.

Note that I wrote "Shark RSI," not RSR2. The feature list between the RSI and EXO700 is pretty similar -- close enough, at least, that a $100 price difference is still too compelling to ignore.

The RSX or RSR2 wouldn't work for me at the time because I wore glasses day-to-day and with the shape of my head, there wasn't really enough room in the face port to wear my glasses comfortably.

I know exactly what you wrote. I'm a dealer for Shark as well as Scorpion... I am intimately familiar with every helmet from both manufacturer. There is no way to get around the whole "you get what you pay for thing". You got your money's worth. And the Scorpion is a decent helmet in it's price range. It is not, however, a comparable helmet to the Shark RSI.

Well, then please elaborate on that and explain in what ways the RSI is superior to the EXO700. The reason I ask is that there are no longer any Shark dealers anywhere near where I live -- or Scorpion ones either, for that matter... Around here everyone just carries a shitload of HJCs and maybe two or three Shoeis and/or Arais. So I had to base my decision on Internet research and a Scorpion test-fitting while visiting my parents in the Washington, DC area (the only Shark dealer there didn't seem to actually know anything about them).

I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'd really like to know, and it will absolutely affect my purchase decision next time around.

Scorpion is a mid-quality, mid-priced helmet, much like KBC or HJC. Shark is more of a premium helmet company, on par with Arai, Shoe, Suomi.

Shark's carbon/aramid shell construction is far lighter and more impact resistant. The foam impact absorbing layer is FAR superior in design and material. Shark uses a very specific density foam. The shape of said foam supposedly takes impact much better than a traditional flat layer. The foam is shaped somewhat like an egg-crate. Allowing room for the foam to expand and disperse impace over a larger surface area. The Shark face sheilds are the thickest ones on the market. The RSI sheild is 2.5mm thick, anti fog, and can literally be bent inside out without any breakage or distortion. Sheild retention is also superior. You will never hear anyone complain that their Shark shield came off in a crash. That is probably the single largest complaint about the Scorpion helmets. As soon as you crash the sheild is gone. Superior venting. Superior moisture wicking and interior materials. And on... and on...

Me too. Before we were a Shark dealer. I took it in the shorts to the tune of $600 on an RSR2 that didn't fit. And the distributor I bought it from would not take it back with out a huge restocking fee.

Right back to Arai for me...

    Re: Shark Helmets?

    I ditto scottieducati almost exactly.

    I have a Foggy RSR and a Duhamel RSR2.

They are the nicest lids I've owned and I have Suomy Spec 1R and had an Arai RX7 Corsair and older Shoeis.

They're light, vent air very well, superb visor, and the new RSR2 visor change/removal is easy. That was my only complaint with the older RSR version.

Cheek pads and liners are replaceable with different sizes for a custom fit.

The only thing to be careful of. If you like a smoke or mirrored visor, the ones for the Sharks are really really dark, probably because they are 1 million times thicker than other shields. Maybe not a millions times, but they are very thick.
