That must've been what I feeling when I rode it.
I can't wait to try it with the new tranny

Where did you find a used transmission for $175?

I got the transmission from a buddy on WERA out of his spare race motor..for $125 shipped. I posted up a bunch of "want" threads too on WERA and the R6 forums..and had a ton of people wanting to sell them for $150 shipped. You can find stuff on e-bay, but in my opinion its a gamble, not a risk I wanted to take.

Nice technical writeup, thanks, I love this kind of stuff.

I thought Yamaha had cassette transmissions that just slid out of the case without splitting on the R1 and R6. Is that something that's simply more recent than your R6, or am I just getting senile?

Maybe its more recent? We definitely had to split the case to get the tranny out... I wonder/don't know (?) what year that may have changed.

I googled it, but because Yamaha also makes stereo gear, cassette tape decks kind of overwhelmed the search results. I could be completely wrong about it too.

Congrats on your first disection lauren that's pretty cool that you were able to use the internals from an 05 did you have to modify any of the parts or did it all just drop right in?

Thanks! Didn't have to modify anthing, tranny dropped right in. Its pretty cool with my bike I can use a transmission for a 1999-2005 R6, or a 2006 or newer R6-S so lots of options for parts sourcing
