    Anyone shipped their bike?

Still a bit away from buying a Multistrada but planning never hurt!!
Looking on cycle trader, nice new leftovers out there, a 2014 Gran tourismo model in red at Ducati Miami. Other similar bikes in Texas, California etc.

    Q: good shipping company?
Rough Cost when you shipped your bike?

    Thanks!

forward air. It was about 500 from CA to MA when I used them. I think it might be close to double that now. Super easy though.

Also: is fully Strapped down on the forks ok? Or did they use a wheel chock (sp) and straps?

    Re: Anyone shipped their bike?

Mine was tied down as normal. 4 straps to the corners of the container. I think they had some extras in there for security, but there was no chock, and no way it was moving. Forks weren't bottomed, just good and tight with ratchet straps. I had a bunch of tires and spares in the box too.

Shipping? Sounds like a great excuse to use the multisrada for what is was intended to do - Ride.

Some warm weather gear and a touch of planning and you could fly to Miami and ride it back in a day and a half. Still warmish up until about DC.

Keyboard shippers. About $550 when i shipped a bike from South Carolina to Boston and the same cost when i shipped a bike from Dallas to Boston. They had a specific wooden pallett they loaded the bike on, strapped it down, good to go....

I hate slab riding with a passion, but I appreciate the thought, chicken strips are evil...
I was hoping around $500-$700, seems like this is possible

Cool beans, I won't be ready till I sell the FJR or March (wife's big bonus arrives), but this one in Miami interests me, or others... Definetly buying a leftover, 2yr warranty, most of the serious depreciation done with...

Why no interest in the pikes peak? It looks like you would save yourself a couple grand in termi stuff alone.

Goto Seacoast Sport Cycle. Tell Jim what you want. He will find it, get it and sell it to you. Youll be happy, he will be able to match price, youll be supporting a local dealer, you experience will be great.

Its at least worth a call....

Much better than buying from Miami, from some dude who dosent know or care once he gets your cash.

    Good luck.

Excellent info, I will definitely try that route, I was already concerned with prep and whatnot from a distance...

    Re: Anyone shipped their bike?

For $500-$700 I'll fly down and ride the dang thing back for you! As an added bonus, I'm only one town over so you can pick up your bike at my house once I return......3 weeks later.

But seriously, I'd be happy to do the ride back from Miami. Did the ride from St Pete to home on a fly-n-buy for an FJR a few years ago and wouldn't mind doing it again.

I'm a big fan of supporting local businesses, so if you can go that route, go that route. If not......
I shipped one from CA to NY this August.
    Haul bikes.com = $498 ( CA to NY quote) ushiptransportation.com. 414-464-7032

    Berklay Shipmybike.com. $575
Warehouse to warehouse quote. Door to door is more
You crate it yourself ( it wasn't as big a deal as people made it out to be. you need to pack it to YOUR satisfaction that it won't get damaged. Then you bring it to a warehouse location for shipping. I actually built my crate on the truck then finished it at the warehouse because my forklift was broken and no way to get it into truck on my end. They unloaded at warehouse.

    Good luck!

p.s. There's a cool military transporter called Patriot. Restricted to certain states but they sound like an outstanding group of individuals.

    Great info, thanks!

I'm really leaning toward seacoast/local trying to acquire what I need, or have them as my broker somehow, will see

    Re: Anyone shipped their bike?

One of my dream "bucket list" items would be to go to Italy and buy a Duc there, ride it and then have it shipped home, probably a stupid idea but most bucket list items have nothing to do with practicality .
I've already been to Italy twice, rented a 2010? Non s Multistrada, a V Strom 650 and a BMW F 800 GS...GPS systems are brillant and you be amazed how easy it is to get around.

If any of you ever have an opportunity to ride in Italy, you need to do it, it is effing amazing, just be aware of being passed on both sides and cameras on the highways,

My Dad bought his S5 a few years ago he did Audi's European delivery option. Sent over for 3 weeks, picked it up at the factory, rode around Germany then down to the Alps, over to the south of France, and back to the factory for them to send it over here. Definitely not the penny pincher option, but he remembers it as one of his most favorite trips to date.

James cargo is the one you want. I'm going to use them when I start importing bikes from the UK. Good guys. Think it runs about a grand, at least coming from London.
