    short ride yesterday

Had to go pick up a 2001 GXR 750 yesterday for one of the guys that I work with. He is extremely new to riding ( never ridden street or dirt ) and didn't want to chance it with all the sand on the road to get it home. So I was asked and he really had to twist my arm to get me to ride it for him... Only about a 5 mile ride, but damn it felt good just to be out.....

Got it to his house and then he tells me he hasn't even sat on it yet. At least he is starting right, picked up a good helmet, gloves, and jacket and paid for the riding course....

Just hoping that he takes it SLOW and doesn't get over confident about his riding abilities.

Hopefully he will get lucky and not crash bad... what a bike to start with.

Encourage him to get some pants too?

Should we start the pool now as to which side hits first and how many hours into his endevour he will be before he hits something.

His experiences will be interesting for sure.. but I suppose there are worse bikes that he could have started with. At least its not a liter twin with tons of torque at low revs..

A GSXR 750 does nice easy and controlable wheelies (meaning it won't loop easily like a TL), but what an awful starter bike regardless. Didja try to talk him out of it?

An SV650 would be more suitable and a great all around bike, in my opinion. There would be one in my stable if my wife were tall enough to ride one comfortably. The Bandit 400 fits her better and would make the SV somewhat redundant if I bought one for me.

When he started asking what would be a good starting bike, tried talking him into getting an older bike, early 90's and 600, but then he told me he already bought the bike.
