Signed up for the MSF course

I've given up on scheduling a road test through the RMV hotline. I've called in about 7 times only to wait on hold for 30-45 minutes each time, never actually speaking to a person. Registering for the MSF course through Ironstone Ventures No. Andover location took about 3 minutes. MSF - 1 | RMV - 0

Not to beat this to death, but if you have a decent amount of experience I would think the basic MSF is not the best use of time or money in comparison to actually taking a road test.

2 full days learning how to shift and stop...I think I paid a couple of hundred dollars for my course.

Well I will probably learn a thing or two with the course, plus in the end I will get my license. It was nearly impossible for me to schedule a road test.

Just signed up online about an hour ago for this weekend the 16th/17th. My second choice being the 6th/7th of June but I'm hoping to get in this weekend. The registration mentioned that I still need to call the RMV to pay the $15 endorsement fee in advance, I was unaware of this. I hope I dont have to wait on the line for an hour to do this...

It's funny... people that go into the class with that mentality usually end up being closer the bottom of the class by the end of the weekend than the top and the ones that had absolutely zero prior experience often show them up, both in the riding eval and the multiple guess-errrr choice.

I saw it for myself last weekend. Some kid's girlfriend ended up riding better than he did and he was the one that "already knew how to ride".

For what it's worth, there's a lot more to the course than just shifting & stopping. A lot of street survival stuff that can save your life is covered in the classroom that most people would never learn on their own.

Re: Signed up for the MSF course

    FYI

Just got this email on Friday So it may be full????.

You're receiving this email since you have completed a Motorcycle Safety Foundation/Mass Rider Ed Program rider course
PLEASE PASS THIS INFO ON TO A FELLOW RIDER THAT COULD BENEFIT!!! (it may even save their life.....at least some money)

    No, you've read right!
The RMV and Governor's Highway Safety Bureau have received a grant to reduce motorcycle rider's injuries and fatalities.
    The target audience is:
    1) sport bike riders
    2) the rider has never taken a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course
    3) a rider that is still riding on a permit/does not have a motorcycle endorsement on their license
    4) riders between the ages of 25 and 40, but not exclusive.

The first opportunities will take place in Acton on Sat 23 May or Sun 24 May.
The next opportunities will take place in Seekonk on Sat 27 June or Sun 28 June
The course is a one-day affair and will be held from 10a-6pm; classroom from 10a-12 noon, riding 1p-6p

To take advantage of this free (yes, free, but with stipulations), please call our office at 508-278-0172.
When you call we will ask for your contact info (name, address, telephone, email, date of birth, learner's permit/license number)
Finally, since we want to make this available to as many riders as possible and assure that the rider will attend, we will ask for a valid credit card number.
In the case that the rider does not attend, the rider will be charged $50; if the rider does attend, credit card information will be destroyed.

This course will be taught by expert sport bike riders and certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and the Registry of Motor Vehicles / Massachusetts Rider Education Program.
Successful completion of this course will entitle the rider to by-pass the RMV road test and receive motorcycle license endorsement, IF they have a valid permit and have paid $15 to the RMV for their license. Also, they will receive a course completion card from the MSF, which will entitle them to motorcycle insurance discounts.

You can register by filling out our standard registration form below and emailing or mailing it back to us or call us at 508-278-0172.
We have been awarded sufficient grant money to serve only 48 riders, act early, as it will be first come first served

If you question the sincerity or validity of this offer, please contact Gene Carabine at RMV at 413-781-0633 for validation
    Thanks

That's not the MSF Beginner Rider Course that gets you your license. That's something different.

That is the trial sportbike program and yes, they will get licenced just like the BRC. Derek is the primary!!

I can only speak from my own experience. I took the MSF....and after having ridden for a few years I would not consider retaking it. The ERC or "sportbike" class maybe, but not the basic MSF.

If I recall from previous threads this guy has been riding for maybe 5 years??

A man with priorities so out of whack, doesn't deserve such a fine lady person. 3 to 1 odds says he is a member here.

People would learn a whole lot more if they checked their egos at the door.
You should set up a little box with a deposit slot on it and the word 'EGOS' emblazoned on the side in the classroom and tell all the tough guys to deposit their egos into the box and inform them they may have them back at the successful completion of the course. Just don't make the box look too much like a toaster or you'll have people sliding waffles in there.

yeah yeah...but then we would miss all the real humbling experiences when they are the only one in the class to dump it.....

^-------taking the BRC for the 3rd time in 17 years. I usually end up bringing a group that didn't initially want to take it. So I offered to take it with them as incentive. It worked... got 4 guys this time to take it next weekend in Concord.

I agree that the course is more than learning to start and stop. Their are some basic cornering technique and survival strategies that are important to introduce to new riders.

Good memory. Yup I've been riding about 4-5 years. But I never had any formal training whatsoever. I hope to learn from the class but like I said, couldn't get through to the RMV to get my road test scheduled so I'm doing this instead. Hopefully the $275 will be worth it to me.

Even grumpy old Harley guy who took the course when I did learned something. And yeah, good luck finding neutral on their bikes, I think we had Nighthawk 250s. Oh and you can also get a discount on your motorcycle insurance with your MSF completion card.
