What would be the single most important advice for a new street rider?

What's the single most important piece of advice you feel you could offer to a new street rider?

Don't try to go around a garbage truck on the right because it might start to turn right a second later and make you wipe out. A buddy at my work who rides a 250 had that happen this morning. He was fine so hopefully he learned the lesson.

Re: What would be the single most important advice for a new street rider?

I would say (since I know you're asking for your mom and sister and they already took the MSF) Relax, look through turns and don't brake mid turn. Most common motorcycle accident is failing to negotiate a curve. That's what my one and only wipe out was. From msgroup.org: "Running off the road, usually in a curve, often involving alcohol, and almost always a 'single vehicle' accident accounted for a stunning 41 percent of the total motorcycle fatalities. This is more than twice the percentage of any other cause."

Actually, it was more of a loaded question. I had them in mind but they aren't the basis of this thread.

My single most important advice to them simply were to stay away from Denno on Saturday...

BWAHAHAHA... that's good advice for ALL riders... and my apologies to DucDave and the rest, I'm not a tool that doesn't know how to turn mine off, there's dirt in the button thingy and sometimes I have to really jam it to get them to turn off.
