Trying apps on my android one reads low it won't go above 86db one reads high over 114db? are these phone apps any good? wife has an apple phone are those any better?
Depends on what your trying to do with them. I would say they are ball park numbers at best, usually good enough to tell you something is louder than it should be. You can get pretty cheap ones online that are much more precise if you needed it.
Basically if it's for an OSHA complaint buy one, if it's for your hearing protection buy one and if you want to see how loud your exhaust is then the phone should be fine.
Bikes my Ducati and Kawasaki. Canaan is 96db and Tamworth 102db i believe?

Your phone should be fine. Your wife's iphone would be better still. Just use the built in one. They are roughly standardized so the readings will be more accurate.
Just make sure you get the distance and placement correct. It's probably different for each track.

In my experience, I have found the NIOSH app to be very accurate (typically with +/-2dB of a calibrated instrument) for measurements between 80 and 95 dBA . Especially when used on a newer phone with less "pocket wear". It can be made to be extremely accurate with the purchase of an external microphone and an acoustic calibrator, but if you're after measurements for personal use the iPhone mic will be fine.
