How many take off/ spare parts does everyone keep?

How much stock take off parts do you guys keep? I'm struggling with throwing shit out I don't want to store but feel like I may kick myself for getting rid of. I'm looking at two stock exhaust systems I likely will never use. Do I roll the dice and re-buy them if and when the time ever unlikely rolls around? I have an oversized one car garage so I do have some storage room to work with. But the more life goes on, the more it gets taken up with coolers, kids toys and non moto stuff.

I suppose this will be different for everyone. I'm sure some of you guys have way bigger spaces with more storage and more property. I hate clutter and having to move around stuff I'm not using.

Looks at horde, looks at question, sweating intensifies...

I'm no help, I hang on to stuff way too long... I have SDG brake parts still for crying out loud.

Every time I want to get rid of my mess of parts, I end up needing one small thing that completely justifies it for another few months years.

Re: How many take off/ spare parts does everyone keep?

I keep all my stock shit because I typically don't hold on to a car/bike for more than ~5ish years. That said, I also realize, now that I think about it, that I completely lack the time or motivation to swap everything back to stock when I do sell it, so why am I keeping it all?

Anyone want to buy some 1290 Super Adventure or CRF250L Rally parts?

All Ill say is... I don't want to talk about it

Edit: Any one want stock 2005 STI suspension with Tanabe GF210 Lowering springs? I only sold the car 7 years ago... Kept em cause then I could swap out the KWV3s that were on it when I sold it...

Re: How many take off/ spare parts does everyone keep?

Kinda depends, I normally keep EVERYTHING, but recently if I'm selling something i'm 99% sure I won't be replacing it with the exact same bike in the future I give all of the stock stuff to the buyer. When I sold my 07 690SM I gave the guy the original seat & full exhaust along with the Corbin & Leo Vince installed. And when I recently picked up a 13 690Duke the owner gave me 3 boxes with all the stock stuff he replaced, plus 2 liters of Motul

However I not only have everything I've replaced on the Hyper, when I see good deals on "potential" broken pats I buy them even if not needed. And because KTM parts aren't cheap, and at times have plastic tank issues, even thought my current tank is 100% fine I picked up a lightly used gas tank just because it was a deal.

Re: How many take off/ spare parts does everyone keep?

I try to keep everything to maximize $ return if/when I go to sell it.
    Example: I bought a lightly-used aftermarket shock for my DR650 for ~$500.
The stock one is in a box on a shelf, it's only worth maybe $50 if I go to sell it.
When I go to sell the bike, I plan to reinstall the stock one, and will be able to sell the aftermarket one separately for ~$450.
It's very unlikely that the aftermarket shock will add an extra $400 to the sale price of the bike; or it will be an easier sale at $400 less.

Re: How many take off/ spare parts does everyone keep?

I keep a tote specific for each vehicle I one. I label it and 8ccasionally inventory what's in them. I use those fairly large black and yellow totes that you see at home Depot. I don't worry about too much until it's full then I make guesses. Since I mostly deal with older vehicles I horde hard to get parts. I don't worry much about stupid stuff like tires or spark plugs usually. I built a rack for all my totes to fit in exactly. When I get rid of the vehicle I usually give the tote away with it unless I know I will be buying another one at some point. Like I have a good pile of cbr600f2 parts here because I will eventually find another.

I have the stock ECU, stock exhaust (totally complete, flapper motor and all), stock license plate assembly, newly-rebuilt 1100S forks, 1100S subframe cover in carbon, stock rear sprocket, and a couple of other things. If there's something specific you're looking for, let me know

When I got rid of my race bike, I lowered the price contingent on the buyer taking EVERYTHING out of the basement.

Re: How many take off/ spare parts does everyone keep?

I'm keeping all my original parts for my V-strom, if/when I ever sell my Vee, I would return it to stock, none of the mods or accessories would make it worth anything over oem value. however my mods, & accessories sold individually could easily bring in more than the bike itself.

I never get rid of parts, even if I really should. Takes up a lot of space, but I don’t want to give up the flexibility to go back to stock.
