    Speeding...kills (and costs money)!

    Hello Everyone,
I got a speeding ticket in VT for 15 mph over the limit, about $130. Because the speeding ticket was out-of-state, VT ticket with NH license, will my insurance company know about it? If I pay the ticket, NH should never know?

I read that "Vermont does not report tickets to your home state unless violation results in license suspension."

VT should not report speeding tickets to NH?

Know if there is any truth to this?? :

You'll here a different story from everyone on that issue, some say it will show, some say it won't I've gotten speeding tickets in Vt, NH, Me and Ma and not one of them has ever shown up on my driving record. I'm from RI and i was always told that RI reciprocates with all New England states

From experience, if you pay it on time and it's not a major violation that suspends your license it will not show.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

Same here. Some I've payed on time never showed and the ones I didn't (except for one) did

I live in VT and have recieved more than my fair share of tickets in NH. As I understand it VT does not have reciprocity with NH, so if you pay the ticket no furthur damage will be done to your driving record, or insurance. DUI and DWI are the only offenses I know that will carry across (I think because they are considered a felony). Good Luck...

that would be because they are a misdemeanor, most tickets are only a "violation" and not considered crime at all. agrivated dwi might be a felony though.

it even takes states a while to report major offenses to other states... the guy that killed my grandson a few years back had several dui/dwi convictions in MA and also had his privledges in MA revoked but he still had a legal NH license

Can I just say it's totally fucked up that DUI is not a felony?

I'm all for having a rule like the FAA... if you get one Flying under the influence you are done for life... sounds draconian but I'd vote for the same rule for driving...

We hear all this crap about bikes being dangerous, speed being dangerous, blah, blah, blah, all of it is a drop in the bucket compared to DUI related deaths.

I believe 40%, roughly 1/2, of ALL motor vehicle deaths are caused by drunk driving! And often times it is not the drunk driver but some other innocent person who is killed.

Repeat DUI offenders should be treated as felons.

A felony is typically defined as a crime that is punishable by more than 1 year in a state prison. A misdemeanor is punishable by less than 1 year. DUI is a misdemeanor in almost all states?

in some states 1st offence DWI is only a violation

the reasoning is that someone that is charged is more likely to not fight the charge... saving the taxpayers court costs and potentially losing cause proper criminal arrest proceedures are often forgotten in a traffic stop

Hey R7, that left lane violation, were you in a commercial vehicle or just a truck and trailer??

    Highsider should know.

I'm under the belief that VT won't report unless its 15 MPH over.

    Who knows? Highsider?

*To the best of my knowledge* states either have reciprocity for violations, or they dont. I have heard that Maine and Vermont are this way, but no other states in New England (strangely enough, Florida is also one of these states).

There is really only one way to find out.....

The screwy part of this whole deal is that state DMV's are independent agencies run at the state level; there is really minimal involvement of the federal government, and thus no reason for the states to need to work together.

Didn't think there was any law against passenger vehicles with trailers in the left lane in Ma. I run my truck and trailer in the passing lane all the time, usually cause I'm passing people! Sounds to me like the officer didn't like you cause you'll usually get run over at 65 on 128!

I'm pretty sure all the Trucks prohibited from left lane signs are refering to commercial vehicles, but then again I guess it depends on the cop.

I'm sure your sure but your also wrong. all vehicles trucks, trailers, buses, campers are prohibited otherwise even a pissed off cop wouldn't give you a bogus ticket.( I don't want to hear from everyone who got a ticket they dont think they deserved.)
By bogus ticket I mean a ticket that doesnt apply.
