Very practical for moving a bike around a basement or garage.

Not very practical for working on a bike.

It is almost guarenteed that at some point you will have the wheels off the bike when you find out that the stand is obstructing your ability to work on the bike. This will result in a significant/hilarious risk of trying to transfer to traditional stands without wheels. Maybe if you have captive wheel spacers you'll put wheels back on before transferring. Otherwise, I'm taking the risk nine times out of ten.

Dana used one in the pits for her 848. Worked slick, but as noted she wasn't doing major surgery on the bike either.

Why not just use a front/rear stand combo? I can't imagine that thing being much better except for in the case of mobility, head bearings or a bike with a SSSA.

Except that you have to walk around to each wheel to get the warmers on/off anyway.

Again, using Dana as an example, she could rip the warmers off without concern for the bike falling off individual stands, aim the bike where she wanted it, lower it, get on and kick the stand out of the way with her foot solo in pretty short order.

If we're talking warmers at LRRS, if you're pitted with others typically you don't have to worry about removing warmers yourself.

That is a cool piece of gear. Imagine not cheap, and I wouldn't even take one for free if it played that puke inducing soundtrack while using it.

Looks a lot like the EazyRizer stand Randy has gone on about several times.

Here's a less expensive (cheaper?) stand, I have no experience with it, just noticed it on line.

Re: Has anyone ever used a spider stand?

OK I wanted to add this here in case anyone is considering a 'paddock' stand like this.

First of all, I have two of these and I swear by them for garage storage use. Moving the bikes around, making tight u-turns, taking apart the front end for a stem bearing job, keeping tires off the ground over the 6 month winter break, whatever, they are awesome. Yes, you want to have the bodywork off prior to doing any major maintenance, but there hasn't been a job I cannot do with bikes on the stand.

Second, if you need new pins for different bikes, ebay sellers such as "sv racing parts" can sell you pin kits. So you can reuse the stand on different bikes as your garage changes. I recently sold an 848 and bought an R1, and SV racing parts sold me a pin kit to ensure the stand worked for the new bike. Quite a straightforward install.

Interesting tidbit about the pin kits. The original stand of this design was Bursig's I believe. Then MotoMFG in Buffalo, NY started ripping them off (my stands are actually moto mfg). Then the Chinese started ripping off MotoMFG. Which means the pin kits will work across all of these types of stands - the Chinese pin kit I got for the R1 worked with the MotoMFG stand, and the seller assured me that they would have worked for Bursigs as well.

    General garage storage -

I just replaced the pins/adapter plate on the 848 stand to use it with the new R1:
