900 for the first oil dump? I thought it was ~600mi/1000km.
Word has it the "shit" they put in is dino juice that may or may not either just be cheap oil they got from their partner (Motorex for KTM) and/or have a different friction modifier pack to aid in ring seat.
There is some info out there about doing ~2-3k flat runs for ~20 minutes then a heat cycle for seating the valve tappets and cam. But I would guess that would be done at the factory.
More info says ring seat is the biggest/best thing you can do for it. Lots of mid-throttle pulls under load, varying RPM, avoid WFO and idling. Avoid super-slab cruising. Ride for about an hour and then drop the "break in" oil and go for the synthetic then.
~600 of break in riding, then an oil swap to synth is something I think I can do.

To be fair, bubs only has a $500 hole in his credit card and a weird, vague promise right now. Bubs will feel differently when he actually gets his grubby mits on some hardware.

Is it in stock, confirmed delivery, or “we think it might arrive…” ?

Yeah, it's 600 miles. But that was 6 months ago which is like 5 years in Pandemic time.
I rode it to work, then went out for an hour every day at lunch to get the clock rollin. But my first 200 miles were on track.
Turns out you can hustle pretty good in Blue Group even with a 7k rpm limit. Lol.
I'm due for my second oil change. Do I go Motorex again, or the tried and true Rotella? Decisions.....

Is this level of concern about seating a KTM thing? I’ve been on Honda’s for 24 years and other than avoiding WFO for the first 600, this has never crossed my mind?

Re: This could be my first new sport tourer in a long time.
I suggest a track day scheduled for the morning after you pick the bike up so that you can break it in properly and seat the rings well!

No. It is overactive thinking resulting in NESR posts while stuck inside supposed to be "working" dreaming of being out playing with motorbikes and generally overthinking everything. You should be familiar with my MO by now!
That said, I'd be having these thoughts if the motor were made by anyone this side of Toyota. FWIW the motor I had problems burning oil was a Suzuki.

I think we’ve all had that MO. Hopefully, this spring will end a 3-year NESR winter

Why?
I think I’ve glazed over all the Rotella comments over the last decade

NICE! Just out of curiosity, did you mention to the Zook guys you went with this partly because it was available?

Yes, I let them know that I just couldn’t risk losing half a season or more waiting for a first year bike.
The guys at Bettencourt’s, as always, were very cool.. It’s not their fault at all.
In addition, the lack of a center stand and an easy way to mount a top case on the zoom were starting to bug me.

Re: This could be my first new sport tourer in a long time.
:poke: I may have missed it, but have you posted up your thought on the new ride??

Re: This could be my first new sport tourer in a long time.
Steve did you ever even get to sit on the Suzuki?
Now I am getting a little obsessed with the naked gsx1000.
But I think itd be going the wrong way ergonomically.

No. Never threw a leg over and as recently as last week, the dealer where I had put down a deposit in Oct/Nov had not seen anything and had no idea when they might.
