Dowco. They work perfectly on my ninja. They could hold 3 or 4 days of clothes easily.

    Cortech Sport Saddlebags
Typically around $115-120, shop around and you might get closer to $100.

They work great, they're durable, and expandable to another couple of inches in width. They also come with rain covers.

Plus, if you feel you want or need a tailbag later, they make one specifically that snaps perfectly together with them:

I have that tail bag and use it constantly. Not real fond of soft saddlebags as they swing/sway and that just bugs me

+2 on the Cortech. I have all three on my zx6r and they work great... plenty of space.

If you have a high mount exhaust you may have trouble fitting them - also interference with directionals may be a problem. Once set up well they are awesome.

I just sold a set to ScottieDucati who rode them to Canada in the rain nonetheless last weekend. Ask him for a review.

    Re: Sportbike bags..?

I picked up a pair of Fieldsheer Expander saddlebags to replace a pair of older bags I wasn't happy with (which in turn were to replace a pair of nice RKA bags that met an untimely demise).

The Expanders fit on my bike much better than either of the other bags did, at the cost of a little carrying capacity. I haven't run them in hard rain yet (luckily), but they do come with rain covers when purchased new. They're on closeout in some places now, too, as Fieldsheer is changing distributors for 2010.

They do look rather dorky, but I don't think there's any way around that if you intend to put luggage with any meaningful capacity on a sportbike.

I use that Cortech tailbag on my Monster and love it. I did a 4 day trip a couple of weeks back and fit everything needed with a bit of creative packing.

I have a set of Fieldsheer for my Ninja. I bought them this spring and brought them on a 3 day trip, and there is plenty of room. Price was around $100.00.

    So far no complaints.

This is relevant to my interests... but having a set of Staintunes on the bike affects my ability to run soft luggage... Guess I'll hafta get the OEM hard cases or some Givi's...

Give me a shout if they don't have what you need in stock.

So, now that you've decided, here are the precautions. I'm not a fan of the rain covers. They're held on with elastics so if the wind catches them just right they blow up like a balloon and eventually can find a way to fly off. If you're riding alone, you won't know they're gone till you stop and find a bag full of wet clothes. You can skip the rain covers and instead pack everything inside a trash bag and have far better success at keeping everything dry.

Riding in the rain also tends to get road grime and grit under the bags. If they're touching your plastics, this acts abrasive and can rub your clear coat or paint. You may want to give them a lift and a wipe at gas stops to make sure no damage is being done.

Still like the bags, just warning you of some issues I've noticed during the 5+ years I've used them.

firstgear's bag uses a cinch-type pull string restraint that tightens up under the bottom of the tail bag - it's very secure and doesn't allow wind to get under it. i had to use it the first day i used the bag...on the kanc, no less. worked great! bought it at whitehorse press in conway, nh.

There’s just engineering, skill, and luck.

    -1988 Kawasaki Ninja 750 - sold
    -1997 Honda CBR600F3 - sold
    -2011 Ducati Streetfighter S - current

    Re: Sportbike bags..?

The only reason they won't fit my 848 is the under tail exhaust. Since your Street Fighter has side mounted pipes you may be in luck. Maybe someone in Boston has pair they can lend you for a trial fit. If you're up in Southern, NH you can try mine.

cortech makes a smaller sized version that will work with you bike. Worked with my 1098.

    Re: Sportbike bags..?

I've got a set of these generic type Ebay bags I paid 65$ shipped. Looked at the Cortech and they are probably the way to go if you've got the extra money, but these are fine for me.. they are not waterproof, but come with rain covers and are expandable. They carry lots of stuff.. Expanded you could put a helmet in each side or a couple of changes of cloths.
