I shouldn't talk, I find the R6 to be pretty ugly. But it is a weapon, and the ladies do like it...

It's nice to go out in public with whatever you have on at the time and JDGAF.

Re: I present to you, SS LandWhale

Rear pads have a ton of life left.

The muffler "tips" were loose, explains some of the rattle of our bad New England roads. Snugged them up.

Flushed the clutch system, front master/left caliper, rear master -> front right caliper. Waiting on new front/rear/steering head bearings, while everything is apart I'll grease the splines on the driveshaft and bleed the rear caliper. Drained the "catch" can down by the clutch slave cylinder, that was filled to the brim with white gooey mix of oil and water. Air filter is somewhat dirty, new one of those is on the way as well, and spark plugs.

Cleaned and greased the clutch and front brake lever pivot pins.

Found a blown 2.5amp fuse. Replaced it and the clock works!

Found that the intercom was disconnected at the internal connector. No need for it anyways.

Pulled apart the "tone" and auto volume box. Cleaned the pots with electronic contact cleaner, now no more crackling when turning the dial.

Found some Polk Audio 4" speakers that I had in my old college car in a box in the basement. Tossed them in. Right one still crackles a bit, likely the amp in the stock radio. Completely usable as it is though.

Cleaned the handlebar mounted mute/tuning switch box with electrical contact cleaner. Now I can tune up AND down.

Found a missing screw in the throttle assembly on the bars, that's why it was a bit loose. Will order one up shortly. It's the longer of the 3.

Changed the rear drive line fluid. Existing stuff wasn't very dirty.

Going to flush and change the fork fluid while I have the front end apart to do the steering head bearings. In the manual, there was some handwritten notes at the end that mentioned progressive springs. Guess I'll find out when I take the caps off if there are some in the forks.

I think I have a couple of Clarion Marine speakers in the shed if you want them. I'll never use them.

I'm good, thanks though. These Polk Audio's should do the trick.

Might upgrade the head end unit to a marine grade modern one though. Get me some blue teeth and hands free calling, ya dig?

Going to be out of commission for a couple weeks. Pulled the front end apart to replace the steering head bearings and the steering stem nut is a 4 pin castle style. Can't get a spanner on it, have to order the special socket for it.

Hammer and drift punch. Or get a socket that's the right diameter and cut it down to fit.

Yep. For the GL1800 you can cut down a piece of 1.5" Black Steel pipe. I don't know if the 1500 is the same size, but it can be done in less than an hour.

Same deal with the SV/GSXR front, but it takes two different castle nuts (3 + 4 pin). One of the few special sockets I haven't found a decent OE alternative to -and it's $150 for both sockets! Deciding whether to hunt down sockets and cut them or just click Buy Now....

Other ways to remove it but need that socket to torque it back down properly.

I tried making one of these last night. The nut is REALLY on there, and my angle grinder skills are about as good as Stevie Wonders' driving ability. The nut is really on there, doubt it's ever been off since 1986, so I only ended up chewing up the nut a bit before giving up. I'll wait the week for the proper socket and be able to torque it with confidence.

The hammer and drift punch won't work on this. That was my typical go-to before I finally bought a proper spanner. This has two handlebar mount uprights that are part of the top triple that prevent getting a spanner or pipe wrench on the nut. I might replace the nut either way since it is made of hot butter and melted as soon as I gently placed a drift in the same room as it.

HOLY SHIT did they make this bike as heavy as humanly possible. Not kidding, EVERYTHING is metal. Even the plastic housings have metal threaded inserts for screws. Simple air diverters are steel. The floorboard/shifter/rearset assembly just on one side must weight ten pounds. Weight was NOT a concern.

This thread needs more pics of obsolete 80s shit!

Oh, and the CD player came out in 84, so that is an acceptable period mod.
