People average ~40 on the current GL (Honda GL1800 MPG - Actual MPG from 76 Honda GL1800 owners) or slightly less.

Assuming the 20% is to be believed that would put it somewhere north of 45MPG, perhaps as high as 50MPG.

Negative (unless you count my wife whapping me in the back of the head).

Highest I ever logged was 43.5.
Lowest I ever logged was 33.5.

If I average all of my entries I get 39.1 over 5 years and ~50k miles.

No, but it was probably on winter mix fuel (it was a mid April date), which I see a noticeable decrease in.

I usually only do about 100 miles on a track day. That leaves me ~140 to get the average back up on the street.

FINALLY inspected. Tried a couple weeks ago, but between a few days earlier checking all the lights, and the day of the inspection, I lost the low beam.

Now she rides right, and is fully legal.

BTW, just filled her up again. 154 miles, 4 gallons nearly on the dot. 38.5 mpg. About right for a 1200.

Timing belts done, all looked good in there. Oil/coolant changed out too. She'll be ready to munch some slow miles this year. Just in time for even more snow.

Re: I present to you, SS LandWhale

Took her out yesterday for the first ride of the year.

She gobbled up nearly a full shopping cart of groceries. Rode even better with all that weight out back.

    That's impressive.

Rides decent enough now that a bunch of work is done. Probably could benefit from a couple Penske triple clickers and some modern forks, and some radial mount brakes, and ABS, and fuel injection, and adjustable windscreen, and radial tires, maybe integrated GPS, and another 800cc's, but ya know what?

This stupid thing was 1/3 of a paycheck, not 1/3 of a years salary. With that in mind, I'm pretty pleased with the big girl.

Can't you just accept that you're stuck in the past and therefor unable to judge if you're pleased or not?

I'm sure they were all kinds of confused. Full face helmet, riding jacket, riding pants, riding boots, on something that screams jean jacket, jorts and tennis shoes.

You need to make a salvation army trip to find jeans that fit over your riding pants that you can make into jorts...

Yesterday was a good chance to enjoy the big girl for a ride around the state.

Shockingly, she is absolutely rock solid at 80mph. I couldn't believe it. Nothing for drama. Took her for a squirt up Rt.2 for a while.

Why are you shocked? Even with the age it's a HONDA. And Honda's flagship model.

Because 50k on the suspension. Bias ply tires. Old tech everything. Heavy as possible.

One fork seal was beginning to weep a little, so I stripped down the forks to replace them. Decided to do bushings while I was in there. Existing ones had 50k miles of wear so it's no surprise they were a tad loose.

Sorry for hitting the Rewind on this thread but I keep circling back your earlier statement “When you already have 6 bikes, and your wife says "Oh, you always wanted one of those, right? You should get it". Like a song I just can’t get out of my head I’m thinking there’s a chance that could happen in my life.

Heh, with the good comes the bad. Grass is always greener, eh?

Fork seals/bushings are done. Front end is dry and tight.

Time for a clutch slave cylinder rebuild. Had a slight drip every since I bought it, wasn't sure if it was that or engine clutch cover gasket. Nope, it's time. Thanks, AllBalls, for always having what I need. Oh, wait. They don't. Ok, K & L Supply has my back!

Re: I present to you, SS LandWhale

Clutch slave cylinder replaced. She's now completely fluid tight.

Did a 600 mile weekend on her up to Waterville Valley with some of my Dad's riding buddies. Wing performed flawlessly the whole time. Even hustled her up Bear Notch Road while being held back by traffic.

Going to do a full rebuild of the brake master cylinders, calipers and pick up some braided lines, then I think she'll be done.

Re: I present to you, SS LandWhale

All parts to rebuild the brakes proper are on their way. Braided lines, master rebuilds, new sight glass, caliper rebuilds, etc.

Apparently in the linked braking system, one front caliper has a different piston size than the other, necessitating different rebuild kits. It was designed to have a 60/40 split for the linked system on the rear pedal. Neat.
