    New helmet brand?

Have any of you see/bought/heard about the new helmet brand "Scorpion"? I rode with a few guys/gals yesterday and two of them were wearing them. Very nice helmets! They said they are very comfy, the vents are good and the price is not bad at all...they had the raider model, in red.

    Thoughts?

    New helmet brand?

Hahaha little miss twisties where have you been for the past 3 years?!

j/k.... they have been around for a few years now, excellent helmets at a very competetive price. Puts HJC lids of the same price to shame. I had the EXO700 and it was a great helmet. The new EXO-1000 is supposed to be amazing, but wasn't going to be released yet when I purchased my last lid this past April, or else I would have bought it. I just picked up my girlfriend's Scorpion a few months ago on sale for $125

Oh sorry...I just went with what the guy said yesterday...LOL He said they were a new brand of helmets. Keep them coming reviews if more of you have some, because at that price, I would most likely buy my new helmet from them. I've had my Shoei since I started riding, about 5 years now. Time to get a new lid.

I was on the market for a new helmet recently and I tried a few scorpions on. I really liked them and they were a true contender for my new hat, but I went with the truely new Rocket helmet.

It was lighter and the inside was more 'cushy' and comfortable. It was a bit more expensive but I'm happy with my purchase.

I've been going back & forth about the EXO-700. The finish looks awesome and the 700 has gotten some pretty good reviews from helmet skeptics.

I really like the new Burst scheme.

BTW, watch out on Blackstone St. by that old green house (you know, the one that;s torn down, but still has their sign up that reads, "SLOW DOWN". I thought I was busted the other day. Mr Leo turned on his lights as I approached. Turns out he was going after the person going the other way.

    WHEW!

As for the helmet, I'm happy with my HJC AC-12. All this helmet talk made me remember to order a new padding kit from Newenough.com. I bought an XL helmet and when the padding settled in, it was a little loose. Turns out that the shells for the L and XL are the same, but the padding is 5mm thicker for the L helmets.

I still have to buy a helmet for my son, because he's coming of age to ride. Maybe that'll be his...

    New helmet brand?

i wear a exo-700 as my spare helmet and for the money its one of the best helmets on the market.

My main complaint with mines is wind noise is horrible, at highway speeds it generates this sound that kills my ears. But being on a naked bike doesn't help either, also the fact that my other helmet is an rx7 i am a bit more picky about that stuff. Its also a bit on the heavier side if you choose the exo-400 model which is a polycarbonate material, but the exo-700 is a fiber-composite so it is a bit lighter and slightly better ventilation.

If any of you guys are near my job in somerville (riverside motorsports) feel free to stop by and you can try on the helmets. Or if your closer to the south shore, my old job south shore motorsports also carries scorpion instock (well they did when i was there).

I know exactly what you're talkin' about. I love that little sign. And that fact that the cops hide right near it.

    Something about irony something something.

It's not the AC-12 Carbon is it... haha.

I ordered smaller pads for mine cuz I wanted to adjust the fit... but the pads didn't fit quite right, so I returned 'em. *shrug* hopefully, you'll have better luck.

They had the radar sign up this morning, right next to the slow down sign. Funny stuff.

Well, I need 3 helmets (me, wife, and son all have different sized noggins), so buying 3 x $500 is a little too pricey for my wallet.

When does the price of a helmet nullify it's performance?

I'm curious as to price vs. protection, as well as which price point is paying too much.

    - I know that protecting your noggin' is priceless, so I don't want to see replies that say something like, "It's your head, pay whatever you want."
    - I know that there are different materials from which the outershell is made, thereby increasing or decreasing costs
    - I was under the impression that it was the compressing foam inside that protects your head, not that fancy paint scheme
    - Some helmets have more/better features: venting, weight, etc.

This is always a heated debate. I don't like the "what is your head worth" comments.

Arai helmets cost more due to a lot of R&D, and different helmet shapes. Whereas brands like HJC and Scorpion tend to use a single template for manufacturing their helmets.

I do know that I would probably opt for a fiberglass (or similar) woven helmet
than a polycarbonate composite. This bumps the pricing up a little. The HJC AC-12 and the Scorpion EXO-700 are both fiberglass composite woven helmets.

another neat thing to think about is some helmets like my RF1000 have been wind tunnel tested and have a lot less aerodynamic drag.

    New helmet brand?

I've totally derailed this thread from it's original intent (which was to tell everyone about this 'new' helmet brand anyway... )

Chuck, I know it's a heated debate, and I too hate the 'what is your head worth' comments. Is my head worth $600? Absolutely - it's worth much more. But would I buy a helmet that cost that much? Probably not. I know that might not make sense, but I'm sure some people understand what I'm saying (or typing).

Yes, I would like to buy the best helmet I can, but I also want the most bang for my buck -- I don't want to pay for the extras.

Right now I've got a cheapo HJC that I picked up to use for the MSF - CL series, I believe, so it's a polycarbonate shell. I dig the AC-12 Carbon just because it looks neat. *shrug*

Rummy, less aerodynamic drag is great -- but for commuting and weekend rides, is it a necessity? (I'm not looking for an answer necessarily, just throwing this out there.)(PS You were trying to sell an SV, right? How'd that go?)

What I really want in a helmet? :
    - Lightweight (relatively ... I mean, baseball caps are pretty lightweight...)
    - Good venting/fog free shield
    - Removable liner for cleaning (I wear an UnderArmour Skull cap to keep things clean in there, but I can imagine as we get towards hot weather, the funk that can develop [this is my first full season riding])
    - The ability to swap out visors quickly (or something like Scorpion sun visor)
    - Maybe noise reduction (and Rummy's mention of aerodynamics fits in here?), but I wear earplugs, so that's not a big deal.

*shrug* I just don't it to go into a Brand X vs. Brand Y vs. Brand Z, and DOT vs. Snell. I know that's where helmet threads/debates end up going though.

I've been wearing Arai lids since '86. I just recently picked up a Nolan N102, and had a chance to use it for the first time this past weekend. The Nolan has some sort of aero shapeness to it, unlike my recent Arai lids (RX7, Quantum). There's a definite difference in the way the Nolan moves through the air -- no more "bobble head" that the Arais have. This is of course more of a consideration at higher speeds, but I found the Nolan lid to be a lot less fatiguing to wear just because of the decreased turbulence/buffeting, or whatever you want to call it. I didn't choose the Nolan for the aero effect, but I'm pleased in that it does seem functional. So there is something to it, I guess.
