best place to stay for Indy MotoGP

Never been to Indy and wanted to know if anyone has suggestions on where to stay. Thanks

I wouldn't put too much thought into where you stay. When I went down for the inaugural race in 08 the city had so much going on I was never in my hotel for anything other than sleeping. It was basically stay at the track all day, head back to cleanup then head right back out to downtown indy. We stayed in a couple hotels since we where using my buddies hotel points but they where both downtown, which is 10 - 15 minute ride to the track and 5 minute walk to most places in the city.

edit: I take back the part about putting thought in to where you stay. There are some sketchy sections so I guess avoid those. I only have experience staying in the downtow area, and those places where fine, but like I said I was hardly ever there.

Yeah then I would think any place would be fine. It's a fun time, and I thinking about going back since the race that year was a total wash out that ended up getting red flagged because of what was left fro Hurricane Ike

I stayed right near the stadium and it was nice. Definitely be picky about where you stay. The drive from downtown to the track is rough!

When I worked the race last year, I stayed in the Motel 6 that was something like 1.5 miles from the track. I think I ended up paying in the neighborhood of $40 a night, and I got my money's worth. I wouldn't have wanted to leave my bike in the parking lot, though...from what I heard, two disappeared in the weekend I was there. If you're just looking for a bed to crash into, it's not bad, and it's very cheap. I don't know if it would be ideal for getting to happenings downtown, though.

(But yes, the place is a $40-dollar-a-night motel in most regards, so don't be too surprised by sketchiness in general. But the room was reasonably clean.)

I stayed in the Clarion last year - big parking lot with lots of room and tolerance for trailers -- it's right down the street from the track .. And they had a nice bar

Stay at the westin it's where all the teams stay not to mention Monster. Ran into Dunstan there 2 years now..DO NOT MISS THE FLAT TRACK,......... I REPEAT DO NOT MISS THR GLST TRACK. You will also want to make a reservstion for St Elmo's steak house on Sunday night round 8 pm you'll see Some of the "aliens" there. The teams usually have dinner there. I bought Kenny Roberts a beer one year. Make sure you hit downtown area and check out the thousands if bikes.
