    Tires & batterie for EX500

I'll need new rubber for the 500 this season. Any recommendation? I believe the ones I have on at this moment are the original ones, but I could be wrong. I want to spend money on good tires. Also, is there any tires that are made larger to put on the EX500? I don't like the look of "thin" tires...I'm guessing I'd have to change other stuff on the bike in order to put on larger tires?

Another question...need new battery (spelling?) also. I never had to change a battery in a bike before, I will assume that this is pretty standard? Or is there different type/quality of batteries?

What do you mean larger? We race on 110/150s so I cant imagine why youd want/need anything bigger than that?
And I think the pilot powers come in those sizes, but Im not sure.

"larger" as in thickness of the tire, not a bigger wheel...it's not necessary, I just want GOOD tires. Pilot Power are good then?

Re: Tires & batterie for EX500

Well Im a little biased, cause I ride only on Michelins. I have 2CTs for my street bike, Pilot race for the EX and I use street pilot powers as rains for the EX. Im sure other people might recommend other brands, but as so far Ive had no problems with Michelin.

depends on how you ride - it seems like a pilot road would be a better choice for easy street riding - way more tire life

I know NOTHING about bike tires...that's why I'm asking you guys...I know you'll help me make the right decision. I want to get long life, durability, good grip, etc. out of my tires. Good price would be nice also, but I won't sacrifice safety over cheap tires.

    Michelin.

They're a DOT approved race tire.... not that great in the rain but very good grip & pretty decent wear because they're a hard compound. A lot of street riders on Ex-500.com went with them & were very happy w/ em.

    The H2's are all gone.

Try the Pilot Road if you want a nice radial. I have a few left in those sizes. They are now discontinued in those sizes.

I do have some Pilot Activ on sale in your sizes, too. Very nice bias-ply.

    110/70-17 and 150/70-17.

    Whose gonna mount them up?

I thought the chain guard rubbed if you spooned 150s on there. Isn't that why we cut them off?

Are race tire? Why on earth would you?

Pilot road is the tire for Veronique.

Ok, Pilot Road seem to be the good choice here...Dave, I don't know who will mount them? I'm close to Popoli's in Westfield, they've fixed a few things on my bike so far, nice people, nice service. ?

They are OK. Better is DC Cycles on Southampton Road in Westfield. Dan is a good man. 413-562-7122

I can sell him the tires, too. Make it real easy on you.

The Pilot Activ would be $170.00 for the set. I would have to get a price on the Roads.

Thank you for the tip. Altho do you mind telling me your opinion/experience on Popoli's? And also, what's the difference between Pilot Road and Pilot Activ? Thanks!

I know Dan's work. He is an excellent tech. You deal with the guy who is working on your bike and will probably get a better price since it is a small shop.

The Activ is Michelin's premier bias-ply. It is a line that is slowly replacing the Macadam 50E. The Mac 50 is 1990's technology, and the Activ takes advantage of newer rubber compounds and tire construction. For what type of riding you do, I think its the better choice for your EX.

    I like radials

Also if you have a 1 amp OR LESS charger
charge the new battery for 6 hours before you throw it in the bike it will last longer. Also at a minimum pop it on a charger once a month over the winter.

Ok, so I went to Popoli's just to check out prices and what not. The guy tells me "there is no Michelin made for your EX500"....??? So he looks up in his book, and suggest me a pair of Pirelli Sport Demon...

    $133.00 front
    $149.99 rear

$25.00 mount & balance, each (if bringing the wheels only)
$140.00 to mount them if I bring the bike in (2 hours labor, he said)

Is it me or that's a hell of a lot to pay for the whole thing? Over $450.00... (add taxes also...)

Oh yeah...$52.99 for a new battery.

I'll check out your guy Dave...hopefully he's got better prices then this.

Tell Dan we talked. I was just there today dropping off a bunch of Maxima oil.

The Sport Demon is a good tire, but its not a Michelin....
