    Stolen VTR1000F 4/7/2013

Well, barely owned the bike a few weeks and it was stolen. Looks like they may have taken out the apartment complex gate trying to leave or come in. bike was in a pretty safe spot, tucked away out of sight but it didn't stop them. They had to have snapped the steering lock because there was no way they lifted it or rolled it out with it locked, too many cars and such in the way.

    here the info:
    Stolen from North Quincy

    Red 1998 VTR1000F Superhawk

had duel carbon scorpion exhaust, tinted windshield.

hopefully the fact i got a good deal will prevent insurance from screwing me. we will see.

let me know if you see it so i can contact Quincy PD.

Previous owner did have my address but I didn't think he was sheisty. You never know though, he could have had a key for all I know.

    people really do suck sometimes.

the worst part is it seems i can not have a bike since it was so easy to steal. it was tucked away in such a good spot. i thought for sure it would be not worth the hassle to steal it, especially for a damn 98 superhawk.

so unless i can find someone with a garage, that doesn't mind storing the bike, and that i can come and go basically as i please, and do minor work on it at their place, and lives close, i prob wont be riding. super bummed because i was really looking forward to exploring the east coast on a motorcycle and trying out the tracks.

It was private sale he found on craigslist.

Sorry to hear about this man. It is surprising to me that someone would steal a 98 Superhawk. It's not exactly a highly sought after bike for theft. Now it makes me paranoid about my RC...

Does anyone find it odd that the theives targeted an older and not popular bike? I was always under the impression that thieves go for CBRs/GSXRs/YZFs/Zxs or something more common so they can part out easily?

Yup, private seller. really makes me wonder because he did drive it to my place for me in the back of his truck. what am i suppose to do though? demand to look in his garage? i thought for sure a 98 superhawk wouldn't be a high theft bike. but i suppose if they only make a few hundred bucks off of it than it worth it for them.

i thought so too. maybe the steering locks are easier to break, easier to hot wire, and less likely of having an alarm or lojack on the older bikes??? dont know. sucks either way though.

    Re: Stolen VTR1000F 4/7/2013

Some older bikes are getting popular as parts are getting more difficult to find. Also could be that someone is re-building one and decided it would be cheaper to lift one than buy the parts. Good luck getting your bike back, it really sucks to have something like that happen.

    Re: Stolen VTR1000F 4/7/2013

what should be my course of action IF i do get another bike? even older, more beat up bike? FZR? or should invest in the thick chain? the cover thing posted above? or wait until i have a real garage?

considering buying that track gs500 and just doing track days but i really want to ride on the street. plus still would need to find someone willing it store it for me.

It was insured so hopefully i will get a fair check from my insurance soon. BUT if i get another bike and it is stolen again, my insurance isn't going to be too happy and could drop me which i don't want since our car is on it too.

most likely. i've been watching craigslist but they arent going to throw it up there most likely. so what would they do? tear it down and ebay everything? is there some shaddy salvage yard that buys them and has them in spare parts bins?

    Re: Stolen VTR1000F 4/7/2013

with the internet being what it is, I've heard these guys now stockpile the parts for a couple months then put them out for sale. Selling parts from a stolen bike the day after it was lifted would be pretty easily recognized. They also list them on ebay using different locations, your parts could be sold "from" Seattle, while housed three miles down the road from you. They won't be listed in bulk either, the parts sales will be spread over a longer period, and possibly on different medias. Check the superhawk forum and see if anybody is listing parts there as well. Good luck, it is an uphill battle from here.

Taunton. Just heard from the apartment complex. Apparently it was a green mini van and they had deft scoped out the bike previous. Drove in, loaded it up, and took off. No plate. I don't remember the previous owner having a minivan.
