    something very strange

so my bike has michelin pilots sports for rubbers and after only 300 miles they have developed cracks in between the treads.
has anyone come across this with any tires? i thought it was weird and so did the guys at the dealership.
the first one i saw looked like it was in a star pattern so i thought i hit something but then i noticed all these little slashes and knew it didnt look right so hopefully suzuki or michelin will see it as fault equipment and give me a new one

I wouldn't worry, I have had lot's of tires develop small cracks between the treads

FYI, Pilot Sports are an obsolete tire replaced by the Pilot Power

The date code is on the side of the tire. Look for the DOT stamp, and next to the tire you will see a 4 digit code. For example, 2605 means that the tire was built in the 26th week of 2005.

Michelin is under NO obligation to replace that tire. Unless you can prove how it was treated to cause that problem, I would be very hesitant to warranty it.

I have tires in the warehouse that are 1998-1999 variety that look perfect, mount perfect and have run around Tony's Track days last summer with ZERO problems. It's all in how the tire is treated.

A tire cannot "dryrot" as that implies there is moisture in the rubber that can dry. It cannot dry out. Cracking is usually caused by subjecting the tire to an enviorment which is harsh to the tires chemical make-up.

The Tire Rack article pretty much hits it on the head - there are a variety of factors involved that could cause this, but Michelin OR Dunlop OR Pirelli would want to know the history of the tire before they send you a new one.

NOW - I have warrantied Michelin's for shops that buy tires from me. What shop did you see about this problem?

    folks and especially michelin man
these cracks are not that of dry rot
they are very deep so deep that if something was driven over it would sure as hell cause a flat or even pop
imagine taking a razor and cutting slashes into the tire
as for the way i ride lets just say biggest vagina in the world and should be riding a scooter
if that is not believable, this is a new bike, had zero miles on it, needs to be broken in, and considering it is my first new bike and probably the only new and last bike i will ever buy i baby it
anyway regardless if i can be trusted or not, the tire has 300 miles on it and for lack of a better term has split in multiple places not cracked
but thanks for the feed back
oh yes i dont doubt many tires last forever and never do this and i do believe that michelin makes IMO the best tires in the world but maybe this one or maybe even the batch it came out of was subpar and no one realized it
the dealersip tooks pics and have to send them to suzuki i will see if they can send them to me too and i will post them. i have never ever seen a tire do this and if they dont replace it maybe i can get a chance to show you guys

there are actually afew that big
quote from the teh that looked at them " damn these are deep "
like i said it is real weird
when i was younger i work on cars and did a lot of tire changin shit and have never seen anything like this

    Regardless of $$$$$

    Its your ass

An unknown defect is still a defect. Yes it is unlikely to have a sudden loss of pressure. Back in the old tube days I have experienced a couple of front tire blow outs.... you don't want to do that.

Replace the tire/s immediately. Your the one that's gonna get hurt and trash your bike.

If its both tires then maybe there was a storage problem because front and rears were not made same time and place and equipment

Send it to Michelin if they are not interested or you can't find who or where cares then roast there ass on every forum. You may not get your money but you'll cost them thousands so you can get to smile. Michelin is a quality company but if they are unresponsive then f*ck em up the ass.

I know what you are saying if suzuki doesnt want to warranty it i will try michelin. ( it seems karayaone works for them )I dont think it is a storage issue because it is only the back tire. If neither place owns up to the defects then i will definitely get it replaced and most likely burn some one cause customer care and service is key to everything, i work in it i know. well i will just have to see what happens i am supposed to get word today from suzuki, wish me luck.

This sounds like how people in the Middle East deal with their problems.

A few years back I had a new set of Pilot Sports (when I was still riding on the street) The side wall started to crack. Michelin gave me a new set no questions asked and I had about 1000 miles on the tires. I am confident they will stand behind the tire.

let's review....he bought a bike brand new from a dealer and after 300 miles the back tire is cracking and he wants either the dealer or the tire manufacturer to fix the problem...ya he's a real hard ass

    customer service at it's finest

Michelin is under NO obligation to replace that tire. Unless you can prove how it was treated to cause that problem, I would be very hesitant to warranty it.

I would ask what to do and what was possible in regards to a resolution.

I do not think it is unreasonable of the company to ask specifics.

BUT - to tell someone that unless you fix it I'm going to flame you on every message board??

    I would say flame away.

I have gone out of my way to resolve tire issues, but to be treated like this? No thanks. Try that with Dunlop or Pirelli. See how far you get.

What Suzuki dealer do you deal with? I have warrantied Michelin's for SKY, GBM, etc.... let me know.

Do you know how many shops have LIED to me about tires?

The bead came to me broken!!! When you can see where the tire irons tore it up?

The tire came on the bike with a big cut in it!!! When you can see it was ridden and hit a sharp object!

The tire just deflated!!! When you can see where someone tried to tear the stem off!! (this was three weeks ago BTW on a ZX-10).

I have no problem with benefit of doubt, but does the manufacter deserve a few answers first?

Or is that wrong? This is America, right?

i am sure this would not even fall on your hands anyways..it would be the dealers responsibility to get him a new tire IMO....i just didnt think you should be jumping down his throat...but whatever...not my tire...
