In my admittedly limited experience with condo associations, personal relationships matter more than the precise language in the agreement. You're friendly with the condo officers, yes? Talk to them, tell them the bikes are registered passenger vehicles. Offer to meet them part way - iirc the trailer stands up, would it be acceptable if you put a cover over it so it wasn't visible?

Most condo folks want to maintain a friendly relationships with their neighbors and make sure everyone's property values aren't hurt by one owner neglecting their unit. Making sure the association knows you maintain your unit meticulously will go a long way

Thanks for all your thoughts gentlemen.

Good idea Pete on using old plates, thanks. I have a few of them laying around, though none have current reg stickers. I am friendly with the nazis, have lived here with my vehicles for 18 months. Couple of nuances however -

    • New elections happened this year and some of the trustees have swapped out.
    • We have a weird situation where some of the garage spots in the building are owned by non-residents ('outsiders'), so new Trustees seem to want to be extra prudish about garage rules. Always been that way, but these newbies are just being careful.
    • The market has turned upside down since the condo rules were written in 2007. Spots were worth $12k back then, now they are worth $65k. Which means several owners including me are willing to stretch the interpretation of the laws due to value of our investment.

If there are more suggestions on loopholes, negotiating tactics or ideas, please share them.

    1. Ask around (if you don't already know) who specifically in the association is likely to support throwing the book at you.
    2. "Lobby" those people (see quality advice re: favorite poison above).
    3. Ask for an exemption.

Only get creative if absolutely necessary. The HOA holds a lot of cards and can make your life shitty.
